On the sixth floor was the Electronic Information Department.
This department housed the computer network used to combat crime. It was essentially a massive search engine and database designed to assist detectives with their investigations, allowing them to track anyone's whereabouts with incredible speed.
If someone had appeared in the city's prism, meaning on any street camera, they could be found here with the least amount of effort.
Alex walked into the Electronic Information Department and saw its director standing with his arms crossed, looking at the computer screens of his subordinates.
The director of the Electronic Information Department, Hans Lucas, was tall and thin, wearing a gray-blue checkered shirt on top and slacks on the bottom. He looked quite unfashionable, the very image of a programmer. However, he was not to be underestimated.
Seeing Alex enter the Electronic Information Department, Hans Lucas's brow unfurrowed, and he walked forward with a smile, saying, "Need some help from the Information Department, junior?"
Before this, Jenson had brought Alex to meet the director. It was also important to know that the director was Alex's senior, having graduated from Central City University, making him Alex's upperclassman.
Furthermore, Hans Lucas was a formal member of the Twenty-Fourth First Brotherhood.
There were countless fraternities in America, with almost every university boasting no less than a dozen different types. These ranged from groups of students who enjoyed partying, drinking, smoking marijuana, and generally living it up under the fraternity's name, to highly specialized associations with deep backgrounds and members skilled in advanced technology.
For example, the DKE fraternity, founded at Yale, was a nationwide lifelong organization, often comprised of wealthy children with prominent status and assets. Its members even included five U.S. presidents, such as G.W.B...
There were also fraternities like the Pythagoreans, the elite fraternity of Metropolitan University, and the Gotham University Free Brotherhood, among others, each group united by different objectives.
The First Brotherhood was a renowned fraternity in Central City. Initially, it was established with the purpose of resisting foreign capital oppression, preventing the outflow of local talent, and serving Central City. Each generation absorbed the most outstanding young talents from Central City University. Its formal members were almost all top-tier talents and the children of powerful and wealthy families, who united to help each other, strive for progress, pursue innovation, and continuously grow stronger.
Later, it gradually developed into a formidable local entity in Central City, a signature fraternity association.
Over hundreds of years of development in Central City, the First Brotherhood had amassed a vast network of talent, becoming an extensive network of connections that controlled numerous resources, contacts, and wealth.
After many of its young members graduated, the association served as a relationship network covering all of Central City, offering preferential treatment to members in finding jobs or handling legal cases. Its members included dozens of top billionaires, congressmen, and the mayor of Central City.
Every formal member of the First Brotherhood was not to be taken lightly.
Alex was also a member of the First Brotherhood, having served as its president during his time at Central City University.
Alex's ability to be immediately appointed to the position of First Grade Inspector wasn't solely due to Director Mark's approval; it was also due to his status as a formal member of Central City's First Brotherhood and his experience as its president.
"That's right, Senior Hans. Help me find someone, Danton Black. He should be a nuclear physics expert under Stagg Industries. I need to know his whereabouts for the past year."
Alex nodded and replied.
Immediately, Hans began arranging for his subordinates to search for Danton Black's information.
The entire Electronic Information Department possessed a massive search engine and database used to assist detectives in finding criminal targets. This wasn't the first time they had done so, and finding a person was a simple task.
Soon, while Hans and Alex were reminiscing about their wild days at Central City University and comparing the differences between their eras, Danton Black's information was found by Hans's subordinate.
Alex immediately stopped talking with Hans and looked at the screen.
"Danton Black, height 1.83 meters, weight 85 kilograms, graduated from Cambridge in 1973..."
"Danton Black is a nuclear physicist under Stagg Industries, assisting Martin Stein with nuclear experiments. Six months ago, the nuclear power plant where he worked experienced a failed startup experiment, resulting in an explosion. Martin Stein went missing, and he sustained minor injuries. After three months in the hospital, he was transferred to the Central City branch of Stagg Industries a month ago due to company reassignment."
"Sir, I've also found a police report filed with the state police system. Before the nuclear power plant explosion, Martin Stein had reported Danton Black to the police for stealing blueprints and reselling experimental equipment. Stagg Industries later withdrew the charges."
"Excellent. Have you located his position in Central City? I need his entry and exit records and his current location."
Hans asked Alex, "Junior, do you suspect he is The Multiplicity?"
Alex nodded, "There are doubts. I need to investigate further."
"Sir, Danton Black's movements have been tracked. He is currently staying at the Leighton Club, a three-star hotel located at 78 Leighton Street in the downtown area. Three days ago, he was staying in a very basic guesthouse in the slums."
"I've also found information about his dismissal. He was fired by Stagg Industries half a month ago and evicted from the company-provided dormitory. His credit card is overdrawn, and he owes $300,000 to Rich Bank."
"Open the entry and exit footage, as well as all city prism recordings of him."
Alex lowered his head, staring at the screen through his glasses. He saw Danton Black entering Central City, looking shabby, then half a month ago, being kicked out of Stagg Industries, walking dejectedly and aimlessly on the street, at his wit's end. Then, three days ago, he appeared at the front desk of the Leighton Club, dressed impeccably, booking a VIP room for $500 a day.
The guy wasn't entirely foolish. With over $3.5 million, he hadn't become excessively arrogant. At least he knew how to hide himself, not opting for a presidential suite in a five-star hotel to live in luxury.
But that was about it.
"Alex, this..." Hans's pupils widened slightly as he stared at Alex, who maintained a calm expression.
With his experience, he now fully understood that Danton Black's height, weight, education, abilities, and the changes in his circumstances perfectly matched the profile of The Multiplicity criminal.
This... was The Multiplicity!
The police had spent three days setting up surveillance and gathering clues. Their Electronic Information Department had also been monitoring constantly, checking Rich Bank's surveillance footage hundreds of times, but they had found nothing.
Alex had found the main culprit right after joining the force?
This seemed rather impressive.
"Hans, lend me a laptop and a few data cables."
Alex nodded slightly, confirming Hans's inquiry. Danton Black was indeed The Multiplicity.
Hans snapped out of his daze. The Electronic Information Department was precisely the department that assisted detectives in solving crimes. Without any hesitation, Hans grabbed the latest Apple laptop and several data cables from nearby.
"Alex, we should mobilize the police to surround him," Hans asked, handing over the Apple laptop and data cables.
"No, Hans. Mobilizing the entire force will only startle him. Within ten meters, I can take him down with one punch."
Alex thanked him with a smile and picked up the black backpack containing the laptop, then headed out.
Hans watched Alex's retreating back, pondered for a moment, and then turned back to his office.
However, within a few minutes, Al Swan arrived at the Information Department.
