Reminded by the sharp-featured warrior Terry, most of the veterans in the mercenary group vaguely recalled the events of ten years ago. Back then, they had even split a large amount of gold coins.
The female mage in particular remembered it most clearly, as she had used her share to buy fancy clothes for her father. Since the gold coins she received were worth far more than that robe, she remembered the incident quite vividly.
The members of the Mad Python Mercenary Group were accustomed to life and death, but they never imagined that the pathetic noble, who was merely a sixth-rank warrior back then, could escape what they considered a certain-death situation and return ten years later to seek revenge.
Raymond of the Mad Python Mercenary Group realized at this moment that the other party would not let him go, so he pushed the sharp-featured warrior Terry forward. He said to Matthews, "It was him who wanted to sell you into slavery back then!"
Matthews looked at the Terry they had pushed out; he intended to kill all of these people shortly. The most important thing now was to find out the whereabouts of his Sovereign Artifact, so he asked, "Where is my original weapon? What did you do with it?"
Seeing his captain push him out, Terry knew his chances of survival were slim. He said to Raymond, "Captain, you took the lion's share when we split the money back then."
"Since you are heartless, don't blame me for being unrighteous!"
After saying this, he turned to Matthews and said, "Raymond sold your weapon at the auction house in Patel City."
Matthews then said to the sharp-featured warrior Terry, "And then? As long as you can provide valuable information, I might consider sparing your life!"
Terry said with pleasant surprise, "Really!"
Seeing Matthews nod, Terry continued, "My lord, your weapon was bought by the Jettanson Family of Patel City for 250,000 gold coins."
Matthews signaled that he could leave. Terry glanced back at Raymond of the Mad Python Mercenary Group, then walked behind Matthews and laughed loudly, "Hahaha, I'll be going now!"
Upon realizing that Matthews had come for revenge, they knew this matter could not end peacefully, so they formulated a strategy with a single glance.
They let the seventh-rank assassin Terry feign an approach to strike, while the water-element female mage would cast a seal. Raymond would then follow up with his strongest blow.
Just as Terry reached Matthews' back, he turned around and thrust a dagger toward him. The female mage's ice magic appeared exactly where Matthews had been standing a moment before.
"Ice Seal"
Raymond was waiting for this opportunity. As soon as Terry made his move, it was as if Raymond had received a signal. He leaped forward, and the giant hammer in his right hand swung down toward the spot where Matthews had just been standing.
Using Electromagnetic Induction, Matthews seemed to anticipate his movements in advance. With a single turn, Terry's head fell to the ground. Unfortunately, the female mage was only a seventh-rank mage, and the casting speed of her ice magic was still too slow.
After Matthews killed Terry, she finally sealed a lightning-charged afterimage of Matthews, and the giant hammer in Raymond's right hand slammed into the ice pillar formed by the Ice Seal.
Matthews shifted again and instantly killed Raymond of the Mad Python Mercenary Group. For an eighth-rank warrior like this who had not grasped the concept of Heavy as Light, Matthews could have killed him easily even before breaking through to the ninth rank, let alone now.
Matthews did not spare the other members of the Mad Python Mercenary Group either. After Matthews killed those wearing the Mad Python Mercenary Group's attire, the employer of this mission immediately revealed his identity: "Sir, I am a member of the Church of Light. Can you let us go?"
Matthews was not a bloodthirsty person; if this employer hadn't mentioned he was a member of the Church of Light, Matthews might not have had any intention of killing them!
He had previously made inquiries and learned that it was the people from the Church of Light who had bought him at the auction to serve as a vessel for Angel Descent. Now that he had stumbled upon this secret transport by the Church of Light, which also contained something coveted by necromancers, Matthews naturally could not let them go!
"If you want to blame someone, blame the fact that you are members of the Church of Light!"
After Matthews killed him, he searched his body and found a box, but no other special items were discovered.
At this time, the Blood-Eyed Mane Lion said, "Master, I killed those two necromancers."
Matthews walked over to the Blood-Eyed Mane Lion Pal and looked at the two young mages. Necromancers were generally experts in poison. Matthews used a scavenged weapon to poke at the corpses of the two necromancers, and many items fell from the high-ranking male necromancer's body.
Matthews picked up a book with his gloves and discovered it was a Necromancy Cultivation Notes. There were other strange items, but Matthews didn't know what they were, so he ignored them and left with the book and the Blood-Eyed Mane Lion.
After reuniting with the Fire Rat Mercenary Group, Matthews took the reward for this mission out of his Space Ring. After giving the captain of the Fire Rat Mercenary Group a seventh-rank Magic Beast Core, Matthews said to him, "Your mission is considered complete. Give me a map to Patel City, and then you can leave."
Matthews then took out another seventh-rank Magic Beast Core and said, "Keep your mouths shut. I don't want you to talk about what you saw. Otherwise, you've seen the fate of the Mad Python Mercenary Group!"
"Understood!"
Seeing the captain of the Fire Rat Mercenary Group agree, Matthews continued, "Leave behind one Cloud-Patterned Horned Horse."
The members of the Fire Rat Mercenary Group had watched the entire battle from start to finish and naturally did not want to get involved in Matthews' subsequent affairs, so they took the Magic Beast Core and left.
Matthews then had Fiona ride the horned horse left by the Fire Rat Mercenary Group, while he sat on the back of the Blood-Eyed Mane Lion Pal to rest. After crossing the canyon, Matthews found a village and left Fiona and Asolun behind.
Fiona had not yet begun to cultivate, and Matthews had only taught her meditation along the way. Because necromancy involved the soul, and Matthews didn't know it either, he didn't give the Necromancy Cultivation Notes he had just obtained to Fiona.
Asolun asked, "Boss, why are you leaving me here!"
"It's inconvenient for me to bring Fiona this time, so you stay here and watch over her."
"But Boss, I want to go with you!"
"No, this is the territory of the Church of Light, after all."
"But!"
Seeing that Asolun still wanted to go, Matthews knew that he was going to retrieve the Sovereign Artifact, the Death Scythe, and the worst-case scenario might involve grabbing it and running. Therefore, bringing the seventh-rank magic beast Asolun and Fiona would only make them a burden.
