Background & History

Arrival in the Aika Plane

After leaving an internet café following a night of gaming, Matthews suffers a chain of misfortunes and awakens in spatial turbulence. There, he finds the Nine-Grade Merit Golden Lotus and a blue crystal; after pulling a crowned corpse onto the lotus, he falls through a spatial rift into the Aika Plane. He emerges alone in a dangerous forest, carrying the Sovereign Artifact Death Scythe and possessing Rank 6 warrior strength. 1 2

He survives his first months by drinking dew, roasting all food, and avoiding unknown fruits. Two months later, he encounters the Mad Python Mercenary Group. Unable to speak their language, he mistakes their calculated hospitality for kindness while they plan to sell him as a slave. 1 3 4

Enslavement and Life with Mia

The Mad Python Mercenary Group ultimately sells Matthews, and he loses the Death Scythe in the process. After escaping, he is rescued by seven-year-old Mia. The experience ends his belief that he is protected by protagonist-like luck and makes him far more cautious. 8

Matthews spends a winter in a village with Mia, teaching the children basic martial arts and making folding fans from bamboo and fabric. He leaves despite the villagers’ attachment, choosing to seek power and immortality rather than remain in a quiet life. 9

Imperial Capital Years

Matthews and Mia reach the Furio Empire’s capital, where they survive through street performances of martial arts and swordsmanship. He protects Mia from Rory Doyle’s humiliation, receives twenty gold coins from Kelly, and uses their earnings to support Mia’s magical education. 10 11
