Whenever a major power began to unify, it was always accompanied by a certain amount of unrest. Fortunately, the chaos was soon completely brought under control.
As various reforms got underway, the entire Federation gradually stabilized.
Three years later, the Federation had settled down. After a series of policies and reforms, the entire continent began to get back on track.
Several of the gods entered the laboratories, joining different projects and gradually becoming scientists themselves.
As science advanced, they began devoting themselves to research. It was not uncommon for a single god to participate in multiple projects.
On the one hand, they did this because of the points system Lord Huosi had established. Research results could be converted into points, which could then be exchanged for divine artifacts.
These divine artifacts were nothing like the junk they had used before, which they had slowly nurtured with divine power.
These were scientific divine artifacts incorporating new technology. If they had enough points, they might even get the chance to obtain battle armor like Adkins and fundamentally transform their strength.
Although the battle armor cost a frightening number of points, and it might take hundreds of millions of years to earn enough.
Gods lacked many things, but time was the one thing they never lacked. In the Magic Universe, where they had endless lifespans, time had little meaning.
On the other hand, they could also benefit from the laboratory's work. They could modify things like divine artifacts themselves, and make special weapons, such as crystal balls that exploded from a distance.
The old professors in the laboratory had mixed feelings about it. They were pleased that the gods' involvement would surely take their research to new heights.
These fellows could work without eating, drinking, or sleeping, and the results were terrifying. Science often needed only one thing: time. And time was what gods had most of.
But they were also worried, because these fellows could work all year without eating, drinking, or sleeping, and the old professors were beginning to struggle to keep up.
The gods relied on their divine bodies and didn't care, but ordinary researchers couldn't take it.
Most of the professors at the research institute hadn't reached the Saint Realm. Though they were much stronger than ordinary people, they still couldn't work year-round without eating or drinking like gods.
Even when they were engrossed in their work and could automatically absorb the elements of the world, they still needed time to rest and eat.
But the gods wouldn't let them get enough rest. Airlock, in particular, often woke professors when they had fallen asleep just to ask them a few questions. Afterward, he would tell them to rest well and get a good night's sleep.
They were so angry they wanted to give him a hard slap, but they could only put up with it because of his strength.
While the Federation flourished, Huosi left the laboratory alone.
He was about to begin a new line of research.
On the Extreme Northern Ice Plains, beside eleven complex hexagram magic arrays, a middle-aged man in white robes sat cross-legged on the ground.
After a long while, the man suddenly opened his eyes and looked toward the distant sky.
A streak of light flashed past, then landed on the ground.
"Long time no see, Mr. Kaido."
Huosi appeared and slowly greeted him.
"Well, look who's here. You've certainly made quite a stir on the continent these past few years, Huosi."
Kaido spoke teasingly. He had a general idea of what had happened on the continent.
Kaido Reinass was a collateral member of the Reinass Clan of Hell, and had been the guardian of the Yulan Plane for some time.
In Hell, he was a weak collateral member of the clan, an ordinary person of no importance, no different from countless others.
But in a Material Plane, he was the strongest of the strong: the only Midgod in the entire plane, an invincible existence.
It would be more accurate to say that a Plane Guardian being the strongest was the true norm in a Material Plane.
Not every Material Plane had a Beirut. In most Material Planes, the guardian was the true ruler.
They could even unify a Material Plane and rule it with ease if they wanted. Of course, few chose to do so. Material Planes had no appeal to them.
They were better off using that time to cultivate, and maybe tricking a few more Saints into going to a Divine Plane to replenish its supply of ingredients.
Kaido was rather easygoing. He spent most of his time cultivating alone and rarely went to the continent to trick people into going to a Divine Plane.
That was right—they were being tricked. After all, Plane Guardians had all spent time in a Divine Plane. How could they not know what would happen to Saints who went there?
Even so, they continued to persuade Saints to go to other planes.
Humans had it a little better. Some people needed servants, so Saints still had a chance of surviving and eventually becoming gods.
Magical beasts, on the other hand, were usually either eaten or used as materials. Much of the food in the castle dining halls, as well as the materials for certain divine artifacts, came from magical beasts.
But today, as Kaido looked at Huosi, he felt a flicker of interest.
"Huosi, would you be interested in joining my clan?"
Kaido looked at Huosi and asked, something he rarely did.
"Join your clan?"
Huosi was taken aback. He hadn't expected Kaido to invite him.
He knew about Kaido's clan: the Reinass Clan, the family Hodan and Sadista would belong to in the future, and the one that would join the siege of the Four Divine Beasts Clan.
As an Asura clan, the Reinass Clan was quite powerful.
The fact that they dared to besiege the Four Divine Beasts Clan said a lot.
The Four Divine Beasts Clan had suffered a heavy blow, but it was still very powerful.
The Eight Great Clans dared to besiege them not only because of their hatred, but because they had the strength to do so.
"That's right. You seem to have some talent for exploring unusual fields. The magic array masters in our clan might take a liking to you."
Kaido continued, showing a little appreciation for Huosi.
In the beginning, Plane Guardians had been part of a system created by the Sovereigns countless years ago to spread their faith and draw more lives to the Divine Planes.
Later, as time passed and the wars of faith gradually came to an end, the Sovereigns stopped paying attention to them.
Then many great clans began controlling portions of the Material Planes and using them as talent reserves.
After all, many great clans didn't rely solely on bloodlines. The Four Divine Beasts Clan, whose members could awaken their talents with just a little of the bloodline, was an exception. Many clans recruited geniuses from Material Planes through marriage or by offering them worship and support.
The elements of the world were scarce in Material Planes. Anyone who could break through to godhood on their own was bound to have good talent.
Open-minded great clans recruited all kinds of talent to strengthen their foundations.
Of course, most such clans had no bloodline to rely on.
The Four Divine Beasts Clan required its members to share its bloodline before they could undergo the clan's rites, so it had little interest in outsiders.
The same was true of the clan on Miluo Island. With the bloodline of the Blood-Veined Titans in their family, they placed great importance on bloodlines.
Cesar was hunted by Saikela because Cecily's child didn't have the Blood-Veined Titan bloodline, which Saikela had noticed at a glance.
Kaido also had a duty of his own: to recruit people with promising talent into the clan.
Of course, by now, that duty was mostly symbolic.
The Reinass Clan had grown stronger over the years, and its own power was sufficient, while geniuses in the Material Planes were far too scarce.
It was the sort of task that brought no reward whether you failed or succeeded.
If one of Kaido's close elders hadn't been fond of magic arrays, he wouldn't have said anything. At least in the Yulan Plane, he couldn't see anyone who qualified for recruitment.
"Sorry, Mr. Kaido, but I have no plans to leave the continent right now."
Huosi shook his head and directly turned down the offer.
All things considered, the Reinass Clan wasn't a good choice for Huosi. It was actually quite dangerous.
For one thing, Huosi knew his own capabilities. His research wasn't the same as magic array research, and he couldn't reveal much of what he knew about technology.
His actual talent for magic arrays wasn't particularly strong. Even if he went to one of those great clans, they wouldn't value him.
By contrast, an outsider who joined a great clan but failed to prove their worth had only one fate: to be cast aside.
For another, the Reinass Clan would likely fight the Four Divine Beasts Clan in the future. As an outsider, he could easily become cannon fodder.
The Reinass Clan, an Asura clan that would join the other seven great clans in besieging the Four Divine Beasts Clan, was bound to suffer heavy casualties in the battles to come.
Perhaps in the eyes of the higher-ups, all of it was just a number. But for those who died, life only came once.
The dead from the Reinass Clan, the other seven great clans, and the Four Divine Beasts Clan could number an astronomical amount.
Join the clan as an outsider, and his fate would be miserable.
When Linley and the others, including Dylan, first arrived on Bloodridge Continent, they encountered a group of people being hunted.
There was only one reason they had been killed: they had helped the Four Divine Beasts Clan.
That was why Linley had investigated the matter, and learned that the Four Divine Beasts Clan was in a difficult position.
"Is that so? Then forget it."
Kaido shook his head and didn't mind. He had only asked on a whim.
At the end of the day, Huosi was just a Lowgod who had refined a divine spark. He wasn't worth much effort.
The fact that Kaido had mentioned it at all was already an opportunity for Huosi. Since Huosi wasn't interested, that was that.
"Mr. Kaido, I'd like to ask you something."
After briefly changing the subject, Huosi continued.
"Oh? What do you need me for? Don't tell me you're leaving the Yulan Plane."
Kaido was a little surprised, then looked at Huosi in confusion.
The boy had only recently unified the entire continent with overwhelming strength. Surely he wasn't suddenly planning to leave. Why else would he have bothered unifying it?
"Of course not. I'd like to research a teleportation magic array here, so I was hoping you'd let me stay for a while."
Huosi shook his head and explained.
"What? You said you want to research a teleportation magic array?"
Kaido's eyes widened. He wondered if he had heard wrong.
Had the boy really said he wanted to research a teleportation magic array?
Then Kaido found the idea utterly absurd. The boy really didn't know his place—no, he was downright arrogant.
Something created by an Overgod? You want to research it? Do you think you're a Sovereign?
I casually said you had a talent for magic arrays, and now you think you're capable of this? Aren't you being a bit too arrogant?
As a member of an Asura clan, Kaido's talent might have been average, but his knowledge far surpassed that of ordinary people.
The teleportation magic arrays in this world had been created by an Overgod at the beginning of creation.
Not even the Sovereigns could figure them out, let alone replicate them.
Now a Lowgod was saying he wanted to study a magic array. It was absurd beyond belief.
The last time he'd heard something so ridiculous was when a member of his clan had said he wanted to cultivate eleven divine clones.
But over countless years, among countless gods, no one had ever managed to cultivate eleven divine clones. Even those who cultivated five or six were exceedingly rare.
"Is that so? Do as you like, then. But I should warn you, this magic array isn't easy to study."
Kaido shrugged indifferently.
Let the boy give it a try. It would be pretty amusing to watch him scratching his head without understanding a thing.
"Thank you, Mr. Kaido."
Huosi smiled slightly, then took several detectors from his spatial ring and sat down beside the magic array.
"Oh? This is a little interesting. Pity you don't understand what a spatial teleportation magic array means."
Kaido raised an eyebrow, watching Huosi as he pondered.
In the Coiling Dragon World, time wasn't worth much. Huosi felt as though he had just gotten a bit of inspiration, yet a hundred years had already passed.
He couldn't help sighing. Back in his previous life, whenever the top students at school complained about how quickly time passed, he hadn't understood them.
Now he did. For those geniuses, studying came naturally. They studied, and time simply slipped by. Of course they couldn't understand the feeling of a poor student who thought every day dragged on forever.
Fortunately, in this life, he probably didn't count as a poor student.
"You finally stopped, boy. You worked on it for a hundred years without saying a word. How did it go?"
Kaido looked rather surprised as he spoke. He hadn't expected Huosi to keep at it for a hundred years.
"It was too profound. I couldn't understand it at all!"
Huosi shook his head, saying outright that he couldn't understand it.
"I told you already. This thing isn't easy to understand. You get it now, right?"
Kaido curled his lip, looking down on Huosi's efforts.
Huosi smiled calmly and didn't answer. In truth, he had made some progress and now had a direction for creating a spatial teleportation magic array.
But it would be astounding if a Lowgod had found inspiration for one in an array created by an Overgod. It was better to go back and continue working on it there.
So he simply told Kaido he couldn't understand it. Once he got back, he would continue his research. Huosi estimated that he could produce a working version very soon.
