The skies of the Immortal World were far loftier than those of the Lower Realm. The clouds lay thick as an unbroken range of mountains, churning and flowing through the lofty heavens. Sunlight slanted down through gaps in the clouds, casting vast, interwoven shadows of light and darkness across the ground.
After flying for roughly two hours, the terrain beneath them gradually shifted from rolling hills to open plains. A broad river wound in from afar, its waters a blue-green hue, rippling beneath the daylight like scattered silver scales.
That was the Heavenly River.
As they flew, Ding He continuously pointed out the terrain below and explained it to Chen Xuan, from the course of the mountains along the way to the distribution of vegetation on both banks of the river. He left no detail unaddressed, clearly intending to make a good showing before this senior Divine Immortal.
Chen Xuan occasionally nodded in acknowledgment, but his gaze remained fixed on taking in the entirety of this new world.
The foundation of the Heavenly River Sect stood on a stretch of flat land embraced by a bend in the river downstream.
As they approached, Ding He deliberately slowed down so Chen Xuan could see the whole scene below.
Viewed from above, the entire sect was built by drawing upon the force of the Heavenly River. Its main entrance was an archway constructed wholly of pale blue-white immortal jade, over a hundred zhang tall. The three ancient seal-script characters for Heavenly River Sect were engraved upon its lintel, faint azure immortal light flowing between their strokes.
