Digging a Tunnel
Li Xuan and Bai Wen hurried back to Bai Wen's courtyard.
After pushing open the door, Li Xuan quickly took out a flowerpot and planted the Lucky Four-Leaf Clover in it. He also poured in some diluted green liquid to keep it vigorous, since the Lucky Four-Leaf Clover had wilted a little after leaving the soil.
After absorbing the green liquid, the slightly wilted Lucky Four-Leaf Clover quickly perked up. However, it did not undergo any noticeable changes. It merely seemed more full of life and healthier.
Li Xuan was somewhat puzzled. The green liquid he had just poured out was enough to add more than ten years of cultivation to other plants, yet the Lucky Four-Leaf Clover showed no change at all.
Still, Li Xuan did not mind. A Heavenly Treasure with special abilities surely possessed capabilities different from ordinary plants.
This was also Li Xuan's first time encountering a plant that could increase luck, so he was filled with curiosity toward the Lucky Four-Leaf Clover.
After settling the Lucky Four-Leaf Clover, Li Xuan finally began examining this Heavenly Treasure.
The Lucky Four-Leaf Clover lived up to its name, possessing only four leaves. Together, the four leaves were as large as a palm. It looked like an ordinary weed and would not attract any attention at all.
Li Xuan had only discovered this Heavenly Treasure because he had given it a second glance in the Flower Sea. Otherwise, he would have missed it as well.
Moreover, Old Ghost Liu had planted this Lucky Four-Leaf Clover at the edge of the Flower Sea. It seemed Old Ghost Liu had also treated it as an ordinary weed. Perhaps because it grew at the edge of the Flower Sea, Old Ghost Liu had not removed it.
Just then, Bai Wen came over to Li Xuan's side.
"Xuan Ge'er, you really gave me a scare just now. But does this grass have any special ability?" Bai Wen was simply too curious, which was why he came to ask Li Xuan about the Lucky Four-Leaf Clover.
Bai Wen could understand if Li Xuan had stolen a flower from the Flower Sea. After all, since they both grew orchids, it was reasonable for Li Xuan to steal an orchid to plant in his own Flower Sea, even if it was immoral.
But sneaking around to steal a weed that someone else did not even want was rather baffling. They did not want it in the first place, yet he still went out of his way to do this. It was somewhat unreasonable.
"Isn't this four-leaf clover quite pretty? It'll look nice as a decoration in my courtyard. By the way, Brother Bai Wen, let's keep touring the Flower Sea later. Leave this grass in your courtyard for now, and I'll take it back tonight." Li Xuan did not satisfy Bai Wen's curiosity. He changed the subject and did not say any more about the Lucky Four-Leaf Clover. Even Li Xuan did not know how to explain something like luck.
Seeing that Li Xuan had no intention of explaining, Bai Wen did not press the matter. Everyone had secrets, and probing too deeply into his employer's secrets could easily get him fired. Bai Wen did not want to lose this job.
Next, while it was still light out, Bai Wen led Li Xuan through all the Flower Seas managed by more than a dozen nearby Flower Slaves. They covered nearly one-fifth of the North District of the Flower Sea.
Li Xuan did not know whether they were lucky or whether those Flower Slaves had simply not been patrolling the Flower Sea recently, but no one discovered them while they toured those Flower Seas.
It was not until the sun set that Li Xuan and Bai Wen returned to Bai Wen's courtyard, retrieved the Lucky Four-Leaf Clover, and then went back to their own courtyards.
After returning to his courtyard, Li Xuan held the four-leaf clover, shut the courtyard gate, and headed straight into the basement.
He placed the four-leaf clover beside the Void Grass, adding it to his collection.
After arranging the four-leaf clover, Li Xuan picked up a charcoal pencil from nearby and began recording the Flower Seas he had visited that day on a wooden board, organizing them into a map of the Flower Sea's North District.
Only after confirming that there were no mistakes in the map did Li Xuan finally relax.
Li Xuan was not some supercomputer. On the way back, he had been terrified that he would forget the map of the Flower Seas they had toured that day. He had remained tense the whole way and did not dare relax.
After resting for a while, Li Xuan took a seed pouch out of the Void Pearl.
These were Li Xuan's gains from the day.
Twelve seeds of rare plants and one seed of a Heavenly Treasure.
Li Xuan had visited more than a dozen Flower Seas that day and only collected this small number of rare plants, but the quality of these seeds was quite good.
Li Xuan placed these seeds together with the ones he had collected before and tossed them into the Void Pearl. Once he had his own Herb Garden in the future, he could grow them himself.
After sorting everything out, Li Xuan sat down before the table and began contemplating the Flower Sea in front of him.
His place was at the northernmost edge of the Flower Sea, while everyone else's Flower Seas were located farther inside.
However, the North District's terrain was flat, leaving no opportunity to look out over the surrounding area. Thus, Li Xuan had not seen what lay beyond the Flower Sea.
But Li Xuan was not someone who gave up easily.
"Ugh, north of my thatched hut is a mountain. It'll be far too difficult to dig a path through the mountain and leave this place, unless I have a plant that specializes in burrowing. But I don't have one right now. Forget it, I won't think about it anymore. I'll just do it this way." Li Xuan sighed helplessly, then picked up his tools and got to work.
After organizing his thoughts, Li Xuan went to the north wall of the basement and used his tools to remove the bricks.
Before long, he had created a hole large enough for him to pass through.
He took out a rod and forcefully jabbed it into the area behind the wall.
It could go in, which proved that there was soil behind it!
Li Xuan's eyes lit up. The layer of soil behind the wall was very thick, so he should be able to dig quite far. That would make things much easier for him.
Li Xuan took out a pickaxe and continued digging. As he dug, he stored the dirt in the Void Pearl, planning to dispose of it the next day.
In this way, Li Xuan dug for more than three hours, creating a tunnel one and a half meters high and five meters deep.
Li Xuan did not dare continue digging inward. He was afraid it would collapse if he dug any farther, so he stopped.
After returning to the surface, Li Xuan patted the dirt off his body and lay down on the pile of straw.
"Next, I'll need to get some bricks and wood. Otherwise... this place could easily collapse." Lying in the straw pile and looking at the stars in the sky, Li Xuan spoke helplessly.
Then, Li Xuan exchanged points for a boxed meal and ate it. Once he was full, he lay in the straw pile and fell asleep before long.
Early the next morning, when the first ray of sunlight fell across Li Xuan's face, he slowly opened his eyes.
"Xuan Ge'er, Xuan Ge'er, I'm back!" Bai Wen began shouting outside Li Xuan's courtyard early in the morning.
Whatever else could be said, Bai Wen was certainly enthusiastic about his work as a guide.
"Brother Bai Wen, are you familiar with the East District and South District? Today, I not only want to tour the Flower Sea, but I also want to buy some lumber." Li Xuan said to Bai Wen with a hesitant furrow of his brow.
"If you want to buy lumber... let's go to the East District. The lumber over there is a little cheaper." Bai Wen thought for a moment before replying.
"Alright, then let's go to the East District!" Li Xuan nodded in agreement.
Then Li Xuan and Bai Wen left the courtyard side by side.
Sorry, dear readers. I looked back over it, and I was unbelievably sleepy when I wrote it, so there were far too many typos. I revised it again. This humble one apologizes to all you esteemed readers...
