High Priest: The Advantage Is Mine! "Kukuku..."
The High Priest sat in his study.
As he looked through the ledger in his hands, he laughed wantonly.
The High Priest had originally been part of the Knights Order.
Because he had fought bravely, he came here to serve as a High Priest after retiring.
Well.
In truth, the Knights Order had no such thing as retirement.
He had bribed people and pulled strings, arriving in this village under the identity of a "defense officer."
A defense officer was, to put it plainly, originally the High Priest's bodyguard.
They were professionals specifically tasked with protecting High Priests stationed in villages.
But because of all sorts of ugly dealings higher up,
and the changes over so many years,
it became standard practice for Knights to replace actual High Priests.
Of course, this was a power struggle between Knights and High Priests.
So there were still High Priests in some places.
But the final result of that struggle was that High Priests were High Priests, and Knights were Knights.
Or rather, High Priests did not need the protection of Knights.
Nor did they need defense officers.
They held Magic Wands in their own hands to protect themselves.
Meanwhile, the Knights held the title of "High Priest" in their positions.
But in truth, they still carried their own weapons and protected themselves.
That was why there was only one High Priest in a village.
Originally,
three to five people should have been stationed in a village.
But it did not matter.
Those mud-legged beasts of burden had no means of attack anyway.
So even alone, he did not need to worry about his own safety.
After all, they could not possibly pose any threat to him.
And so, things eventually became what they were now.
