Background

Zhao Nan is a transmigrator born in the Yulan Continent eighteen years before the main events surrounding Linley Baruch. Born to a non-noble family, he possesses no surname. His memories of a previous life allow him to recognize the world as the Coiling Dragon World and anticipate Linley’s future potential. 1

His exceptional innate aptitude—super-grade Wind affinity and spiritual energy eighty-nine times that of his peers—earns him admission to the Ernst Institute. On his eighteenth birthday, his Teacher System awakens. It permits him to accept disciples who trust him sufficiently, share selected talents and cultivation achievements according to their potential grade, and accelerate their cultivation while teaching them. 1 3

Zhao Nan initially intends to cultivate cautiously, maintain a favorable relationship with Linley, and benefit if Linley eventually transcends. He instead takes Linley as his first disciple, then steadily builds a wider circle of apprentices across the Yulan Continent and later other planes. 1 3 59 130

Appearance

Zhao Nan is described as a tall, handsome man with an elegant and restrained bearing.

  • Approximately 1.85 meters tall. 1
  • Usually wears cyan, pale-blue, green, or simple linen robes. 1 26 62 107
  • Keeps his hair secured with a white jade hairpin. 1 62
  • Has a face compared to polished jade and bright, star-like eyes. 62
  • During ascetic training in the Magical Beast Mountain Range, he wears coarse linen, a Space Ring, and no shoes. 26

Personality

Zhao Nan is calculating, observant, and deeply goal-oriented. His knowledge of future events drives many of his early choices, especially his decision to recruit Linley and other high-potential figures. He prefers to conceal his strength when publicity would create unnecessary attention, while still deliberately cultivating a reputation once it becomes useful for recruitment. 1 19 28

As a teacher, he is patient and practical. He develops methods suited to his disciples, teaches Ace according to his age and ability, shares cultivation techniques, and gathers resources needed for bloodline awakenings. 6 26 27 41 59

His conduct can also be domineering. He defeats or intimidates potential disciples such as Olivier and Luo Miu into accepting him, and punishes Clade’s disrespect with the Fate Cage. 58 130 132 Despite this, he generally exercises restraint against weaker opponents and protects those under his care. 40 102 121

Zhao Nan becomes increasingly introspective as his cultivation progresses. His contemplation of fate, transmigration, and his own ambition leads him to question whether his pursuit of transcendence was predetermined. 67 68 79

  • Evolves Zhao Nan’s body and soul through Sovereign Power. 130 131 142

  • Has theoretical but impractical limits; evolving into an existence like Hongmeng requires an insufficient Source of Evolution. 130
