Should I praise Horikita Suzune for her keen observation skills, or...
"Are you a pervert?"
Shikime Natsu stepped forward, a look of mild amusement on his face.
"???"
Horikita Suzune was baffled by Shikime Natsu's sudden remark. How on earth did she become a pervert?
"What are you spouting nonsense about?"
A flush of shame and anger appeared on Horikita Suzune's delicate face. From childhood until now, this was the first time she had ever been called a pervert!
"Isn't it the truth? On the bus, my seat was diagonally behind yours. You were reading a book, but... how did you know I was watching you? And you noticed all three times. Two of those times, I only looked for a brief moment, yet you still caught me. Doesn't that just prove you've been paying attention to me the whole time?"
"Of course, I know I'm handsome, and I'm used to it. But in the future, if you want to look at me, please do it secretly. Don't say it out loud. Don't let my appearance fool you; I'm actually quite scared of being stared at by a pervert constantly. If you hadn't said anything, I wouldn't have noticed I was being watched. Please, try to restrain yourself a little."
Shikime Natsu spoke eloquently, his expression devoid of any guilt, as if he were stating nothing but the absolute truth.
"Enough! Stop talking nonsense!"
Horikita Suzune hurriedly cut him off. If she let Shikime Natsu continue, her reputation would be ruined. If word of this reached her brother's ears...
Horikita Suzune didn't dare to imagine it. She had indeed paid a little extra attention to Shikime Natsu, but shouldn't a normal person feel guilty when confronted like that?
What was going on? How did he turn the tables on her?
"Are we done? Can I leave now? Pervert-san?"
Looking at Horikita Suzune's expression, with that faint blush on her small face, it was clear she was embarrassed because he had hit the nail on the head. Honestly, she really needed to work on her composure.
"Don't talk nonsense!"
Horikita Suzune glared at Shikime Natsu as if she wanted to eat him alive.
It was fortunate that they were the only two standing in front of the school steps, and the surrounding students weren't paying much attention, otherwise, Horikita Suzune's reputation would have been destroyed.
She had only paid a little more attention to this guy, and yet she was being called a pervert? The most critical part was that she had no way to refute it, because she had indeed been holding a book on the bus, and Shikime Natsu was sitting diagonally behind her. If she hadn't been focusing on him instead of the book in her hands, it would have been impossible to notice him watching her.
So... was she the one in the wrong?
"I have a name, Horikita Suzune! Don't go around calling me that!"
Horikita Suzune spoke up; she didn't want this annoying guy shouting "pervert" every time they ran into each other at school.
"I understand, Horikita. So, is this how you go about getting to know me, by taking such a roundabout way? Next time, just introduce yourself directly."
Shikime Natsu chuckled, clearly believing that Horikita Suzune was using this little trick to tell him her name. Not bad; this woman had already piqued his interest.
"You...?!"
Horikita Suzune's chest heaved with rage.
"See you later then. By the way, my name is Shikime Natsu."
Shikime Natsu walked up the steps, passing right by Horikita Suzune.
I hope I'm not in the same class as this guy!
Horikita Suzune hoped fervently in her heart.
What a truly awful personality he has!
Chapter 3: Was the 100% Advancement and Employment Rate Bought by the School?
Shikime Natsu quickly found his class based on the names on the bulletin board—Class A, first year.
There were four classes in total: A, B, C, and D. Being in Class A, the first of the twenty-six letters, did that signify his excellence?
Shikime Natsu chuckled, silently praising himself in his heart. Of course, in ordinary schools, alphabetical order had nothing to do with the quality of the students.
Horikita Suzune and Kushida Kikyo were both in Class D. This made Shikime Natsu slightly disappointed; it was a pity they weren't in the same class, as it would make collecting his CGs much harder.
Following the instructions, Shikime Natsu soon arrived at his classroom. He determined his seat based on the paper posted on the podium. Counting simply, there were forty seats including his own. With four classes in total, that meant there were one hundred and sixty students in this grade.
Not many.
Shikime Natsu arrived at his seat and sat down. His gaze drifted to his desk mate, a girl with straight, long hair that shimmered with a pale purple luster. Her figure was very slender, and her uniform looked slightly loose on her, giving her a lazy and cold demeanor.
At this moment, she wasn't chatting with the students who had already arrived, nor was she reading the school introduction manual on her desk. She was simply resting her chin on one hand, looking out the window with a bored expression. When she heard the sound of Shikime Natsu pulling out his chair, she turned her gaze toward him. Finding that he was looking at her, she couldn't help but furrow her brows.
"Why are you looking at me?"
A crisp voice rang out, carrying a hint of impatience, which was also reflected in her purple eyes.
"My name is Shikime Natsu. What about you?"
Shikime Natsu didn't blurt out something frivolous like "because you're cute." Since they were desk mates, there was no harm in him looking at her a bit more, right?
"..."
"Kamuro Masumi."
The girl was silent for a moment before slowly stating her name.
"If there's nothing else, don't bother me."
With that, she turned her gaze back to the window.
Yet another girl who didn't seem easy to get along with, though Shikime Natsu had to admit, the quality of girls at this school was truly high.
There was the ice-cold beauty he met on the bus (who seemed a bit mentally unstable), Horikita Suzune; the lively angel, Kushida Kikyo; and right beside him, the girl who looked like a wild cat, Kamuro Masumi. Not far away, there was a petite, silver-haired girl leaning on a cane, who seemed to be the frail, sickly type.
There was also a strange, beautiful girl folding origami with the manual the school had issued. She had long purple hair with two rhombus-shaped hair accessories, and the locks hanging in front of her chest were tied on both sides with two rubber bands, giving her a very robotic vibe.
After a rough observation, there really were a lot of beautiful girls in this school. Just then, Shikime Natsu suddenly realized something.
He had just made eye contact with Kamuro Masumi, so why hadn't his cheat triggered?
Shikime Natsu didn't dwell on it too much, instead picking up the student manual on the desk. Hmm... and the phone the school had issued. Although students weren't allowed to bring their own phones to this school, the fact that they were provided with brand-new ones left Shikime Natsu quite satisfied.
Just as Shikime Natsu was about to open the manual, a very stern-looking middle-aged man walked into the classroom. Even though he was wearing a suit, in Shikime Natsu's eyes, he looked like he would make a better wrestler than a teacher.
The middle-aged man stood in front of the podium and scanned the room. No one was absent, so he cleared his throat slightly.
"I am the homeroom teacher for Class A, Mashima Tomoya, and I will be teaching English. This school does not change classes every year, so for the three years until graduation, I will be your homeroom teacher and study alongside you. I look forward to working with you."
"The entrance ceremony will be held in the gymnasium in one hour. The materials on your desks were distributed before you entered, but now, I will explain them briefly."
"This school has a special rule: it is a boarding school. During your time here, going out and all external communication are restricted. However, there are various facilities within the school to meet your needs; you can buy daily necessities, and there are also entertainment facilities."
"It is important to note that you must use the points on your phones to buy things. Everything in this school can be purchased with points."
"Points are automatically deposited on the first of every month. Everyone should have already been fairly distributed 100,000 points. One point is equivalent to one yen."
Upon hearing this, incredible sounds quickly erupted in the classroom. Even his deskmate was looking at the points on her phone in disbelief.
"Really? There are actually this many points!"
A boy with short green hair couldn't help but exclaim out loud.
"Of course. This school measures students based on their ability. Those of you who were able to enroll possess corresponding value and potential."
"In this regard, points represent the school's evaluation of you. However, the school will reclaim these points after you graduate, so there is no benefit in hoarding them. How you use your points is your own freedom. You can transfer them freely, but you must not engage in intimidation, such as using violence to force others to hand over their points. The school is quite sensitive to bullying."
If there were 160 students in a grade, that would be 480 students across three grades. If everyone got 100,000 yen a month... even for a school established by the state, that wasn't a simple expense, right?
There was no such thing as a free lunch; Shikime Natsu knew this well. Everything free had a price tag hidden behind it.
"Do you have any questions?"
Mashima Tomoya's gaze swept across the classroom. Everyone was almost entirely immersed in this joy; after all, 100,000 yen a month was quite remarkable for a high school student.
"Yes. Are these points deposited as 100,000 points on the first of every month?"
Shikime Natsu stated his inner doubt directly. This concerned his money, so he couldn't afford to be careless.
These words fell into the ears of the students, and everyone quickly turned their gaze toward Mashima Tomoya.
Hearing Shikime Natsu's voice, a flash of surprise crossed Mashima Tomoya's eyes, and he then looked at Shikime Natsu with a somewhat appreciative gaze.
He had only just finished saying those words, and someone had already noticed?
This was truly interesting. It seemed this year's Class A would be more excellent than he had imagined.
"I cannot say."
Mashima Tomoya spoke, and that simple sentence was like a stone dropped into a calm lake.
Even without him saying it explicitly, the meaning behind his words was clear enough.
"How could that be? So it's not 100,000 yen every month?"
"Sigh... as expected, I knew 100,000 yen wouldn't be that easy to get."
Still, being able to notice that, this guy was impressive. Many people cast admiring glances at Shikime Natsu.
"How did you figure it out?"
Even Kamuro Masumi, who hadn't wanted to pay him any mind at first, was looking at Shikime Natsu with full curiosity.
"It's simple. In Teacher Mashima's initial words, he only said points are deposited on the first of every month; he didn't say it was 100,000 points every month. He's playing word games. Besides, if you think about it carefully, you know a school couldn't possibly spend that much money to provide for students, right?"
"Furthermore, if 100,000 points were deposited every month, I don't believe everyone would study seriously. Are the 100% employment rate and 100% advancement rate bought by the school?"
Chapter 4: Buying an answer for two million? I disagree!
Shikime Natsu's words could be called quite blunt, and the meaning he wanted to express was quite obvious: the school's goal was definitely not to raise a bunch of losers.
"Ara, that's a very interesting argument."
The silver-haired beauty curled the corners of her lips, her purple eyes full of interest. It seemed this school wouldn't be too boring for her after all; there was at least one guy who could help pass the time.
Kamuro Masumi couldn't help but be stunned after hearing these words. It was such an obvious thing, yet she hadn't thought of it.
"I understand."
After nodding, Kamuro Masumi looked away, a faint blush creeping onto her delicate face. Clearly, it was embarrassing that she hadn't thought of something so simple.
"Besides this question, do you have anything else you would like to ask?"
Mashima Tomoya's voice rang out in the classroom once again, and in his mind, he recalled the evaluation sheet for Shikime Natsu.
