The match left the audience completely dumbfounded. They had expected a heated battle, or perhaps the weaker side to pull off a surprise victory.
Who could have guessed they wouldn't even get to see a fight?
All the audience could see was Xu Sanshi getting hit by Hidden Weapons that suddenly shot out of the black fog, or getting whipped a couple of times by entangling Martial Soul vines. His defenses were strong, so the injuries might not hurt much, but the humiliation was off the charts.
"That invisibility skill is way too broken."
"What kind of Martial Soul is that? It's pretty powerful."
"It's most likely a Soul Skill from a shadow-type Soul Beast. Someone with stronger spiritual power, or a better sense for energy, should be able to detect it."
A senior student with high Soul Power pushed up his glasses and offered his analysis.
Huo Yu'er and Wang Dong'er, who were watching the show from the side, looked pleased, but not at all surprised.
"Wang Dong, are you really recording this?"
"Yeah. Didn't Meng say she wanted to see what the fight looked like and what the group leader looked like? I'm recording it to send to the group."
Wang Dong'er patted her chest, assuring Huo Yu'er that she could be counted on to keep her word.
"But we can only see a faint outline while our Soul Skills are active. So what exactly are you recording?"
Huo Yu'er frowned. They could make out a little by using Soul Skills that boosted their spiritual power and vision, but all they saw were two shadows moving around in the purplish-black fog. They couldn't get a clear look at them at all.
The only thing they knew was that Chu Mo and Tang Ya had the upper hand, while Xu Sanshi was getting beaten up. That was why they weren't worried. But if they couldn't see anything clearly, they were curious whether the recording would really work.
Wang Dong'er instinctively pointed at the screen, indicating that she could see them—and that they showed up in the recording too.
"But there's actually footage on the recording screen."
"That's amazing."
The duel on the arena continued.
"It's been fifteen minutes and it's still not over. How long does this invisibility Soul Skill last?"
Xu Sanshi endured the Dragon Whisker Needles in his body, the humiliation of Blue Silver Grass's weak attacks, and the dizziness in his mind. His eyes were bloodshot, yet the shadow Soul Skill still hadn't worn off.
This was so boring.
"Haah..."
Chu Mo yawned. He could already tell what Xu Sanshi was thinking.
"Don't drag this out. This Soul Skill barely costs me anything. I could keep it up for an hour. Don't let yourself get worn down to death. Just admit defeat. You can give us the Mystic Water Pill as compensation. We don't have any deep-seated grudge against each other."
Chu Mo wasn't about to do anything to this NPC who was handing over a pill. As for the insults from earlier...
Tang Ya looked thrilled as she used Blue Silver Grass to rapidly whip their opponent.
Hadn't she already gotten her revenge?
"You!"
Xu Sanshi's face twisted into a grimace. He forced the word out through gritted teeth, but before he could finish threatening them, he fell silent, lost in thought.
"Fine. I admit defeat."
As soon as the words left his mouth, the referee intervened. A powerful Soul Skill burst outward, and the Blue Silver Grass binding Xu Sanshi was dispelled.
With nothing supporting or holding him tight anymore, he collapsed to the ground with a thump.
Now that they'd won, Chu Mo had Xiao Lu end the domain. As it shrank, the purplish-black fog that had blocked everyone's view gradually vanished without a trace.
"Chu Mo and Tang Ya win and receive the Mystic Water Pill from the wager."
The referee shook his head, pulled his gaze away from Chu Mo, then looked around and raised a hand to make the announcement, including how the wager's resources would be divided.
After that, the referee went down to the arena. He used Soul Power to lift Xu Sanshi and carry him off, planning to find a healing instructor to treat him.
They were the only ones left on the arena. Tang Ya excitedly threw herself into Chu Mo's arms, and her delicate fragrance wafted over again.
"That's great! We won!"
The two of them had been at least three or four levels apart, and Xu Sanshi's Martial Soul was of very high quality. Even with two people, they shouldn't have stood much of a chance. She hadn't expected them to win.
If they hadn't been so different in height, Tang Ya would have clung to Chu Mo like a koala, wrapping her arms around him and locking her long legs around his waist.
Chu Mo instinctively put an arm around her slender waist. Tang Ya didn't mind and leaned closer into his embrace.
The sight set off a burst of cheers among the audience, who had come to watch the drama unfold.
"Whoa, Senior Tang Ya is so charming. She just got herself a junior student the moment she arrived."
"I think it's the junior student who got Senior Tang Ya!"
"Whatever happened, I feel bad for Senior Bei Bei!"
The man who'd been listening to his good friend ramble suddenly noticed someone behind him. His expression changed drastically. "Ahem, ahem, ahem!"
His friend clearly had no idea what he was doing. Thinking he'd fallen ill, he asked curiously, "What's wrong? Got a cold? I've got some special medicine from home."
The man could only rub his forehead helplessly. He opened and closed his mouth, silently trying to alert his friend.
"Behind you..."
His friend glanced back casually, then nearly jumped out of his skin.
"B-Be-Bbei Bei, Senior Bei Bei."
Bei Bei, who'd been watching the arena from the stands, ignored the voice beside him. His expression was full of disbelief.
What was going on?
Tang Ya had always been carefree, but she wasn't usually like this. And she hadn't rejected the junior student's arm around her waist. It was obvious—what was that, if not a couple's behavior?
Had something happened while he was away these past few days?
And Bei Bei wasn't the only one staring in shock.
Jiang Nannan was there too.
When she saw what was happening on the arena, Jiang Nannan was completely stunned.
Hadn't she come to cheer on her good friend?
Why was her good friend's teammate someone she knew—and the other main character in the embarrassing dreams she had every night?
You dreamed about what was on your mind during the day. As for what Jiang Nannan dreamed about at night when she missed Chu Mo, that was anyone's guess.
"Chu Mo really came? But why is he so close with Ya?"
Jiang Nannan believed Chu Mo was talented enough to join Shrek Academy. It was just a matter of whether he wanted to come. If he did, that would prove their agreement still stood, and she would still have a chance.
So the person she was curious about now was Tang Ya! Why was she so familiar with the younger boy Jiang Nannan had been thinking about for so long? They were even hugging with their arms around each other's waists.
Had someone stolen the prize right out from under her nose?
But she'd been asking around about the new students. It made no sense that Tang Ya could get to know Chu Mo while she knew nothing about it.
She couldn't figure it out. Jiang Nannan decided to go wait for them and ask them herself. She looked back toward the arena.
Chu Mo and Tang Ya had already collected the items they'd wagered and left.
Seeing them go, Bei Bei gritted his teeth and decided to catch up to them too.
"No, I have to ask. What's going on with Ya?"
He ran after them, leaving his good buddy to get treated. Never mind. He'd be fine. With a Martial Soul that powerful, he'd surely survive.
As for the Dragon Whisker Needles, they could be removed a little later. He wouldn't die. It was better to clear up the doubts in his mind first.
"Phew, that scared me. I thought Senior Bei Bei was going to kill me."
As soon as the two had left, the earlier topic came up again.
"Senior Bei Bei is pretty good-tempered, but it looks like Senior Tang Ya really didn't choose him. I wonder why?"
