A Martial Soul is awakened when a child reaches six years of age. Awakening may be conducted through an array of Awakening Stones infused with Soul Power. The Martial Soul is central to a Soul Master's future potential, while Innate Soul Power reflects its quality. 2 3

Martial Souls are generally inherited through bloodlines; apart from mutation, they cannot be passed on by other means. The Sun Moon Empire's royal family possesses three inherited Martial Souls: the Sun, the Moon, and the Purple Imperial Heaven-Extinguishing Dragon. 55 73

Mutations can produce unusual Martial Souls. Body Martial Souls, which manifest through a specific organ or body part, are regarded as mutated Martial Souls. They have become renowned through the Body Sect, though no Sun Moon Empire Spirit Master was officially recorded as possessing one before Xu Tianming. 3 12
