Overview

Soul Rings are absorbed by Soul Masters to obtain Soul Skills and advance their power. The age and quality of a Soul Ring depend on the Soul Beast or other source from which it originates, while the age a Soul Master can safely absorb depends primarily on physical constitution and mental strength 111.

A Soul Ring must also suit its recipient's Martial Soul. For Martial Souls with multiple or opposing attributes, an incompatible ring can disrupt the internal balance of those attributes and potentially kill the Soul Master 3.

Acquisition and Absorption

• Soul Beast hunting — The standard means of obtaining a Soul Ring is killing a suitable Soul Beast and absorbing its ring.
• Voluntary sacrifice — A Soul Beast that willingly sacrifices itself can theoretically provide a hundred-thousand-year Soul Ring even to a rank-one Soul Master without side effects 81.
• Soul Spirit-like conversion — The Snow Empress retains her consciousness, memories, and intelligence as a spirit body after becoming connected to Xu Tianming 72.
• God-bestowed rings — Legends describe God-Bestowed Soul Rings as gifts from deities that yield the most suitable Soul Ring and Soul Skill upon absorption 230.
• Artificial catalysis — Xu Tianming absorbs a forcibly catalyzed hundred-thousand-year ring from a Mirror Shadow Beast 81.

Martial Soul Compatibility

A Soul Ring should reinforce the nature of its recipient's Martial Soul.

• Xu Tianming chooses a pure spiritual-attribute Soul Beast for his eye-based Sun Moon Twin Pupils, reasoning that it would suit his eyes while avoiding interference with his sun and moon attributes 6.
• The five-thousand-year Evil Eye Tyrant is considered a particularly high-quality land-based Soul Beast within the Sun Moon Empire 9.
• The Mirror Shadow Beast is a purely spiritual Soul Beast with transformation and replication abilities, making it suitable for replication-type Soul Skills 74.

Absorption Limits

• A five-thousand-year Evil Eye Tyrant ring is considered beyond the normal first-ring limit and is dangerous even as a fourth ring for ordinary Soul Masters 9 10.
• During Xu Tianming's absorption of that ring, his body nearly collapses; his skin splits and uncontrolled ring energy erupts through his pores 10.
• Standard theory considers fifteen thousand years an optimal age for a fifth ring, making a thirty-thousand-year Snow Crystal Sky Phoenix ring substantially over-limit 56.
• Twin Martial Souls may permit higher-aged rings on a second Martial Soul, but do not remove the physical and mental requirements of absorption 111.
