Background / History

Horikita is the younger sister of Horikita Manabu, the Student Council President. Much of her early drive comes from wanting to prove herself worthy of him and avoid disappointing him, especially after being placed in Class D. Chabashira Sae considers her highly capable—an excellent student, an all-round athlete, and a potential force for elevating the class—but also identifies Horikita's arrogance as a major obstacle to her growth. 5 13 14

On her first day, Horikita refuses to participate in the class introductions and leaves early, maintaining distance from her classmates. Her first encounter with Bai Ye is a brief exchange of cold eye contact while she reads alone. 2

Appearance

Horikita has a refined, dignified appearance that reinforces her aloof demeanor. She is described as slender, with a cold jade-like face and an untouchable air of nobility. 29

  • Long, waist-length black hair with a side braid tied by a white ribbon. 29
  • Slender figure and long legs, often shown in black stockings. 29
  • Clear, cold eyes that are frequently described as proud or icy. 2 3
  • Her expressions become visibly softer and more embarrassed as she grows closer to Bai Ye. 30 39

Personality

Horikita begins as intensely independent, proud, and guarded. She dislikes unnecessary attention, avoids socializing, and considers most classmates irrelevant to her own goals. Her blunt honesty can make her seem arrogant, but she does not hide behind a false persona; she is direct about both her irritation and her feelings. 3 15 29

Her pride is tied to insecurity about her own worth and her brother's approval. She initially struggles to trust others and maintains an unusually strict definition of friendship, requiring mutual trust rather than mere familiarity. 5 21

As the story progresses, Horikita becomes more openly affectionate, jealous, and possessive in her relationship with Bai Ye. She also works to improve her social skills, gradually responding to classmates, accepting friendships, and taking a more active leadership role in Class C. 24 41 46 49
