Background / History

Class B begins the school year as a comparatively orderly and sociable first-year class. Unlike the regimented Class A, the disorderly Class C, and the openly unruly Class D, its students line up on their own and quickly form friendly relationships. Uesugi Gen considers it the class best suited to him because of its harmony, helpfulness, and overall student quality. 2

Ichinose Honami rapidly becomes the class's central figure. On the first day, she cleans the classroom, befriends most students, and offers to help anyone facing trouble. Her social influence is so strong that Uesugi views much of the class as having fallen under her “aura.” 1 6

The school's class-point system is formally revealed after the first month. Class B retains 863 class points—763 from its performance plus an unexplained 100-point bonus—and establishes itself as Class A's closest competitor. 20

Leadership and Internal Factions

• Ichinose Honami leads through cooperation, personal trust, and concern for every classmate. She opposes plans that would deliberately expel students from rival classes. 24
• Uesugi Gen serves as vice class representative and seeks to lead Class B through intelligence, pressure, and aggressive long-term strategy. 17 23
• Kanzaki Ryuji is a key organizer and strategist. He supports Uesugi's preparations while also working with Ichinose on class affairs. 20 43
• Uesugi-gumi is a secret club formed by Uesugi and several Class B students, including Kanzaki and Shibata Hayate. Its members agree to use harsher methods than Ichinose would accept in order to secure Class B's path to Class A. 29

Class Culture

Class B is defined by unusually strong cohesion and reluctance to harm others for competitive advantage.

Manjian Qifa Dispute

Uesugi proposes distributing past examination papers to rival classes, expecting weaker students to rely on them and make mistakes that could lead to mass expulsions. Ichinose opposes the proposal on moral grounds, and the class ultimately refuses to support it. 23 24

Formation of the Uesugi-gumi

After the failure of Manjian Qifa, Uesugi gathers his initial supporters in a secured activity room. They form the Uesugi-gumi as a covert “insurance policy” for Class B, intending to pursue Class A graduation through methods hidden from Ichinose. 29

Class D Expulsion Crisis

When three Class D students face expulsion, Class B becomes Class D's final prospective source of points. Uesugi refuses to lend points freely and forces Horikita Suzune to accept a future demand in exchange for saving the students. Ichinose supports Class B's united negotiating position despite recognizing Uesugi's manipulative intent. 31 32

Love-Letter Operation

After Ichinose receives a love letter, Uesugi turns the class's concern into its first large-scale collective operation. Class B conducts surveillance using code names, identifies Ryuen Kakeru as a supposed target, and ambushes him—only to later discover that Shiranami Chihiro was the actual confessor. 38 39 40 41

Uninhabited Island Preparation

Class B spends 3 million personal points to acquire information on the coming special exam and prepares for an uninhabited-island survival challenge. Ichinose organizes students around their useful skills, while Kanzaki distributes responsibilities among the Uesugi-gumi. 43

During the island exam's Leader System, Uesugi selects Kanzaki as Class B's leader and entrusts him with the key card. 47 49
