Background / History

Class C was assigned within the school’s first-year A–D class hierarchy, whose placements are stated to be based on student ability. Its students became known to Class B for repeatedly harassing Class B’s male students before the dispute in the library. 18 19

The class’s conduct is strongly shaped by Ryuen Kakeru, whom Class B identifies as the force directing its provocations. Ryuen uses intimidation, threats, and expendable followers to pursue his goals, leaving many of his classmates afraid to oppose him. 31 36

Class D Fight Dispute

On June 28, three Class C students—Komiya, Kondo, and Ishizaki—fought Class D’s Sudo in the Special Building. Class C filed a complaint alleging that Sudo had assaulted them unilaterally, while Class D maintained that Sudo had acted in self-defense. 20 21

Raku of Class B arrived only after the fight and saw Sudo beating the three Class C students. Because his testimony would have favored Class C’s account, he refused to testify. 21

Class B and Class D investigated the case together after Ichinose argued that Class C’s harassment and threats made inaction dangerous. 23 24 Class C ultimately withdrew its complaint during the disciplinary deliberation; Class D chose not to submit a counterclaim. 32

An audio recording later revealed Ryuen instructing his followers to make their injuries appear “up to standard,” suggesting that Class C had prepared evidence to support its complaint. 33

Organization and Methods

• Authoritarian leadership — Ryuen dominates the class through fear, threats of violence, and control over information. 31 36

Conflict with Class B

Class C’s harassment of Class B students establishes it as a direct threat to Class B’s cooperative class culture. Ichinose treats the pattern as a reason to assist Class D in the fight dispute rather than remain uninvolved. 18 23

Class D Fight Dispute

Class C’s complaint against Sudo drives the cross-class investigation between Class B and Class D. Ryuen thwarts the attempt to pressure the three complainants into withdrawing, but the complaint is nevertheless dropped after the disciplinary meeting. 30 31 32

Deserted Island Survival Exam

During the Freedom special exam, Ryuen abandons a conventional point-earning strategy in favor of indulgence and disruption. Class C’s camp is lavishly supplied with food, recreation, showers, portable toilets, and jet skis. 46 49

Ryuen’s treatment of Kaneda exposes the class’s internal oppression: after Kaneda is driven out, several Class C students continue mocking him at Class B’s camp. 46 49
