Background / History

Yu Xiaogang built his reputation as a master of Spirit Master theory and became Tang San’s teacher. He regarded Tang San’s unusual cultivation method, the Mysterious Heaven Skill, as an opportunity: if he could acquire it and present it as his own creation, he believed he could secure his standing as the true “King of Theory.” 5

He was romantically involved with Bibi Dong and later Liu Erlong. His relationship with Liu Erlong ended abruptly when her father opposed their marriage; Yu Xiaogang abandoned her and fled. 33 34 The Q&A Game later revealed that his feelings for Liu Erlong had been influenced by Qian Xunji’s illusion techniques, leaving both Yu Xiaogang and Liu Erlong devastated. 88 89 90

When Tang San’s otherworldly origin is revealed, Yu Xiaogang initially panics, then decides to continue recognizing Tang San as his disciple because he expects Tang San may become a God King and elevate his own status as the God King’s teacher. 125
