After leaving the school, it was already dusk.
As he walked down the street, Ansu noticed that the atmosphere on several of Benalu City's main streets was somewhat deserted today.
This street was usually packed with pedestrians, but today not only were there very few people, many of the shops along the road had also closed.
Cecilia had clearly noticed these changes as well. Her gaze suddenly settled on one of the shops.
"I can sense it... the aura of very unpleasant holy light."
Ansu looked over as well. Several armed members of the Church of Holy Light had just emerged from that shop, escorting a terrified-looking citizen into a horse-drawn carriage fitted with metal bars.
And this was not an isolated incident. As the two walked along, they found many armed church personnel and police officers patrolling the streets.
Every household had its doors tightly shut, and Benalu City had suddenly taken on an air of panic.
"Is the Church carrying out some sort of operation?"
Ansu instinctively thought of something. His gaze swept over the already sparse pedestrians, trying to find the two people following them.
"That man and woman are still following us. They're in the café at the street corner." Cecilia sneered as she reminded him.
Ansu walked to the roadside and bent down to tie his shoelaces, using the motion to casually glance behind him.
Sure enough, through the café's glass window, Ansu saw a man reading a newspaper and a woman drinking coffee.
Neither of them looked at him even once, and their behavior was completely natural. No one would have guessed that they had been following him all along.
