Thor paused his steps, stopping directly in front of Mark.
He didn't really want Mark to know that he was acquainted with Byron.
"Senior, I wanted to ask you if there are any other ways to earn credits."
"Are you running low on credits?" Mark found this strange; how could a new apprentice have so many places where they needed credits?
However, he quickly recalled that Thor was researching Wizard Body Modification on his own, and that research was a bottomless pit for resources.
"Come inside and talk."
Mark stepped aside from the doorway.
Senior Mark's dormitory had the same layout as Kongsha's, but it was very messy inside, with unknown items piled all over the floor.
There was only a clear spot by the long table, but it only had one chair.
Mark sat down on the chair nonchalantly, kicked a box over with his foot, and gestured for Thor to sit on it.
"Actually, with your current job, it's very easy to earn more credits."
Thor looked up at Mark honestly.
"Have you heard of the Mutual Aid Society?"
Thor felt a jolt in his heart and pretended to be recalling, "I've heard people from my batch mention it, but I was very busy at the time and never went."
Then he asked cautiously, "Senior... are you part of the Mutual Aid Society too?"
Mark waved his hand, "I'm not. That Mutual Aid Society is just a small group formed by a Level 3 apprentice along with a few Level 2 apprentices. But usually, it's the Level 2 apprentices who manage things."
Mark's mouth curled into his familiar mocking smile, "They call it mutual aid, but when newcomers go there, they just get exploited."
"However, the Mutual Aid Society also has some interesting things, like the Exchange Meeting. The goods are cheaper than those in the academy's registration office. If you have goods in your hands, you can go there to sell them and earn some money."
"Goods in my hands?" Thor asked tentatively, "Do you mean, I should take things from the Corpse Room to sell? But, doesn't the mentor forbid that?"
"You're a newcomer, so you naturally lack means, but you can set a clear price and let those who are interested find their own way to take them."
Thor was hesitant about this suggestion.
He did want to check out the Exchange Meeting if he had the chance, but the parasite Keli encountered last time was a big problem.
Seniors like Mark and Byron might be safe going to the Exchange Meeting. But those people would likely take advantage of him because he was a newcomer.
It would be great if this Exchange Meeting allowed anonymous participation.
But thinking about it again, the number of apprentices in the Wizard Tower was limited; even if everyone wore masks, it would be easy for others to guess his identity.
If someone were to report this to Mentor Kazi... well, some things are fine to do in secret, but it wouldn't be good to put them out in the open.
"Thank you, Senior. I will think about this carefully."
Mark saw Thor's concern and comforted him, "You don't need to worry about this. The person who held your job before you was always selling things at the Exchange Meeting. And those who bought his goods, in order to continue cooperating in the future, would intentionally help him keep his secret."
Thor asked with a hint of expectation, "Senior, do you have any needs?"
Mark couldn't help but roll his eyes.
"Do you think you could have anything I need?"
Thor felt that he might actually have something, but there was no need to rush to expose it in front of Mark.
After leaving Mark's dormitory, Thor returned directly to the second floor of the East Tower.
The matter of visiting Senior Byron would have to be postponed.
Thor planned to find a time when no one was around to slip a note telling Byron to meet on the second floor of the East Tower.
He hoped Senior Byron would be interested in the other Composite Rune construction models he had.
Compared to the dangerous Exchange Meeting, Senior Byron was more reliable.
Two days passed, and Thor still hadn't been able to wait for Senior Byron, even though he had already slipped the note into Byron's dormitory.
"He couldn't have already left, could he?"
Thor's refining materials had been completely exhausted, and he had a few more Plastic Bone in his hands, but there was still no substantial progress in his Wizard Body Modification.
In his spare time, he had successfully mastered the 0-level spell, Strike Undead.
If Senior Byron had already left the Wizard Tower, Thor would rather smuggle materials out of the Corpse Room than trade his insights with other strangers.
At this moment, the door to the Corpse Room was suddenly knocked.
Thor was a bit surprised; Mentor Kazi had only come yesterday, and normally it would be four or five days before he came again.
Who could be looking for him now?
Thor opened the door, and it was actually that cold Senior Sister who had replaced Byron's job.
The other party was still looking at him with her chin raised.
"Come here, do me a favor."
After saying that, she turned and walked back, as if she were certain Thor would follow.
Thor hesitated for half a second, then closed the door and followed.
This was his first time entering the first Corpse Room.
The moment he stepped inside, he was stunned by the scene before him.
This place was completely different from his own Corpse Room; or rather, it shouldn't even be called a Corpse Room at all.
It looked more like a site for a shamanistic ritual.
The ceiling and surrounding walls were covered in black patterns, with runes of varying sizes interspersed between them.
Candles of different heights littered the floor, some lit and some extinguished. Between the candles, magic circles of unknown purpose were drawn.
Three stone coffins stood in the center of the room, each wide open, with a Corpse standing inside.
Seeing a Corpse in a Corpse Room was perfectly normal.
But these three corpses gave Thor a very bad feeling.
They stood there without any restraints, and if not for the obvious fatal wounds Thor could see on their bodies, it would be easy to mistake them for three living people standing there with their eyes closed.
"These are the three that were delivered today," Senior Sister said, stopping at the doorway with her hands behind her back. "But there's a problem. The second-level apprentice in the middle..."
Senior Sister raised a finger and pointed at the Corpse in the middle, which had been slashed from shoulder to chest by a sharp weapon.
"He brought an evil spirit in with him. If I don't get rid of the evil spirit, the materials on this Corpse cannot be used."
"But that evil spirit is very cunning. Whenever I try to kill it, it immediately transfers to one of the other two corpses. And once my witchcraft switches targets, I have to start the entire process over again."
Dealing with an evil spirit?
I wonder if the Strike Undead I just learned will be useful? Thor thought to himself.
Outwardly, however, he said, "Senior Sister, I don't really have any means to deal with evil spirits yet..."
"I know that, of course," Senior Sister sneered. "I just need you to help me pinpoint the evil spirit's location and tell me at the final moment of casting so it doesn't escape again. It's such a hassle."
As she spoke, Senior Sister raised her hand and tossed something to Thor.
Thor caught it and looked down; it was a piece of limp leather.
He didn't know what material the leather was made of—it was fair and delicate, warm to the touch, and even had a faint floral scent.
Two small holes were punched in the middle of the leather, about half a palm's width apart.
There were no magic circles or runes drawn on this leather.
"Put this mask on your face and sit in the magic circle in the corner, and you'll be able to see the location of the evil spirit. Hurry up, don't waste time," the cold Senior Sister urged impatiently.
"Senior Sister, I..."
The other party interrupted Thor again. "I know, you want a reward, right? Once the evil spirit is dealt with, you can choose one of the other two first-level apprentice corpses to take away. I will write in the task log that I only received one first-level apprentice corpse and one second-level apprentice corpse today."
He could actually take away an entire corpse?
Thor had always felt that his occasional misappropriation of a few materials was already quite excessive.
He hadn't expected this second-level apprentice Senior Sister to give away a complete corpse without even blinking.
Corpses sent to the Corpse Room all had some abnormalities and could not be buried directly. But once processed, these abnormal parts were the best dark-attribute materials.
They could be considered extremely valuable.
Thor only had to help Senior Sister observe the location of the evil spirit to get such a reward?
Could it be that this task itself was actually dangerous? For instance, perhaps the evil spirit might attack Thor.
"Senior Sister, may I ask why you didn't look for Senior Hayden instead of me?"
I was sick for the past two days, so my buffer of chapters is running low.
