The weather didn't look too good that day. Even the sky was leaden gray.

But the foul weather hadn't dampened the wizards' enthusiasm for Quidditch.

The Quidditch Pitch in the distance was buzzing with activity. Even in his dormitory, Scott could hear cheers rising from time to time.

Even the Quidditch commentator, Lee Jordan, could be heard faintly through the window, his voice high and excited.

At some point, it had started to rain.

Scott set down his quill, went to the window and shut it, then sat in the armchair beneath it and reread the "biography" he had written for the crow.

It was the life story of an ordinary crow, from hatching to adulthood.

Scott had described every stage of its growth in detail, from shedding its down to learning to fly for the first time. He had even written about its life in the Forbidden Forest at Hogwarts.

He read over what he had written several times, briefly convincing himself that such a crow really lived in the Forbidden Forest.

Then he stood up, picked up his wand, and firmly pointed it at the motionless crow on the desk.

A flash of magic lit up. With a fairly intense surge of magical energy, the crow came to life once more.

"Caw! Caw!"

It let out panicked cries and flapped into the air, dodging Scott's outstretched hand before crashing headfirst into the window. A few black feathers drifted down.

Scott flicked his wand, and the window opened again.

"Caw! Caw! Caw!"

The crow took flight once more and plunged into the storm outside.

Scott went to the window and stood there, letting the driving rain beat against his face.

He watched without blinking as the crow flew higher and farther away, passing through layer upon layer of rain
