Wang Lie was a contemporary and close friend of Wang Chuan's late grandfather. After Wang Chuan's parents died, he consistently cared for the boy, personally officiated his martial-soul awakening, arranged his clan-academy enrollment, and promised to assist him in acquiring spirit rings. 1 2

When Wang Chuan reached level ten, Wang Lie disregarded the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan's political isolation of the child and accompanied him into Sunset Forest. He accepted Wang Chuan's unusual method of letting Golden Scale identify compatible prey, protected him during a beast tide, and ultimately supported his attempt to absorb a millennium spirit ring after confirming that Wang Chuan possessed an extraordinarily strong physique. 6 7 8 9

During their travels, Wang Lie reunited with his old friend Dugu Bo. He shielded the poisoned Dugu Bo with Wind Control, later strengthened their alliance by entrusting Dugu Bo with valuable medicinal herbs, and joined him in several high-level spirit-beast hunts. 13 47 52

Approaching eighty years old, Wang Lie accepted the Grade Seven Ten-Thousand-Year Ginseng King and Nine-Rank Purple Ganoderma provided by Wang Chuan. The medicines restored his vitality and raised him to level 80, allowing him to resume active cultivation rather than remain retired. 47

After Wang Chuan's conflict with Martial Soul Hall, Wang Lie agreed to relocate with the group to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. He became an elder of the Wu Sect when it was formally established in 2621 of the Douluo calendar. 78 81

Wang Lie was initially described as an elderly yet robust spirit master, appearing around sixty or seventy years old despite his advanced age. By nearly eighty, he had become frail and hunched before his medicinal breakthrough restored much of his youth. 1 47
