An Eternal Combat?
"I didn't expect the Main God to be so retro."
After hearing Fang Xiu slowly state the answer, Tang Tian, who was also from Central Continent, paused for a moment and said in surprise, "It doesn't just favor Western sci-fi worldviews; it even involves the classical Xianxia worldviews from our side."
"Sigh, I used to be bored to death at the construction site, so I watched plenty of those old Hong Kong films to kill time..."
"Damn! Fusang Ghost King!!! This thing must be hard to kill. What do we do? Big Brother, save me!"
Muttering to himself, this kid Tang Tian was truly a chatterbox.
However, he wasn't wrong.
Fang Xiu had also watched An Eternal Combat, and the final boss, the Fusang Ghost King, was indeed difficult to deal with.
The storyline was very clear—
The opening was set during the reign of Emperor Xiaozong of the Ming Dynasty.
Shishi (played by Joey Wong) was grooming herself in front of a bronze mirror, looking very melancholy. On the other side, villagers were worshipping a giant paper effigy, creating an eerie atmosphere.
It turned out that Shishi, whose parents were both deceased, was to be married to the Fusang Ghost King in a ghost wedding. Once she finished grooming, she rode a horse and led a procession toward the forest where the Ghost King resided.
Before long, the ghost appeared.
The entire wedding procession was killed.
The Fusang Ghost King, having finished the slaughter, was very fond of Shishi and grinned, calling her his beloved concubine. However, taking advantage of his arrogance, Shishi pulled out a small knife to strike back.
But how could the strength of a mortal possibly harm a Ghost King? Naturally, she failed.
Shishi was transformed into a Ghost Concubine!
Just then, Hermit Caolu (played by Lam Ching-ying) happened to pass by with his disciple Xiaogui, intending to slay the ghost.
However, the Fusang Ghost King possessed terrifying might, and not wanting to engage in a prolonged battle, he fled with Shishi.
After a brief, sloppy skirmish, Hermit Caolu, lacking preparation, realized he couldn't defeat the Ghost King head-on. He needed to find help, preferably by leveraging the imperial destiny of the dynasty to suppress the evil spirit!
On the other side, Ma Shangfeng, a court general played by Da Sha, was a bit of a fool. He suddenly received an imperial decree, was promoted three ranks, and reached the first grade of officialdom.
But before he could be happy, the eunuch delivering the decree demanded he eliminate the Fusang Ghost within seven days to protect the people.
Da Sha was incredibly depressed and drowned his sorrows in alcohol.
At this moment, his advisor reported that a terrestrial immortal was living in seclusion nearby, possessing unfathomable cultivation.
Thus, the two went to the mountain to pay a visit. They only found a dilapidated hut that could barely house a dog, but upon pushing the door open, they discovered a vast world inside, complete with pavilions and towers! During the visit, Da Sha acted foolishly. Seeing Hermit Caolu use his finger to cast a mysterious light that split a teacup in two without spilling a drop of tea, he thought it was a magic trick and was about to throw a tantrum when he was instantly transformed into a miniature person, becoming thoroughly convinced.
But upon hearing that dealing with the Ghost King required sacrificing his own life, Da Sha became terrified and decided to abandon his post and flee. Before leaving, he stole Hermit Caolu's divine water, intending to have one last fling at a brothel.
However, the medicine was too potent, causing him to fall into a death-like coma.
And everything was within Hermit Caolu's calculations.
Through a well-intentioned deception, the Hermit successfully made Da Sha believe he was dead, making him willing to serve as the Golden Armor Guardian and join the Silver Armor Guardian, Xiaogui, in dealing with the Fusang Ghost King.
The great battle began for the second time. The controlled Ghost Concubine Shishi died first, and the Ghost King was enraged. The collision of righteous and evil forces triggered the power of the stars, opening a gate of time and space, and everyone was transported to the Hong Kong of the eighties...
Among them, the severely injured Hermit Caolu fell into a film set, causing quite a stir, and was sent to a mental hospital by the actors, where he encountered the reincarnation of the Ghost Concubine Shishi—Director Wang.
Da Sha and Xiaogui, the two disciples and guardians, were transported to a church.
The Fusang Ghost King was as well.
But the latter was in terrible condition and, encountering strong faith, was immediately sealed by a holy crucifix.
After a series of twists and turns, the centuries-long battle between good and evil was about to unfold again, with the Ghost King holding the upper hand. At the critical moment, Director Wang recalled her past life and once again stabbed the Fusang Ghost with a knife.
This time, the Ghost King could not resist and died!
The three master and disciples completed their merit, and the An Eternal Combat opened, transporting them back to ancient times.
Final scene: The police arrived late, and the reincarnations of the three master and disciples were actually all police officers.
--Joey Wong was truly beautiful, especially in a few close-ups, but no matter how you looked at it, she resembled Nie Xiaoqian.
--Da Sha's acting was really good; he was silly and very comedic.
--Lam Ching-ying was just perfect for playing a Taoist master.
The above was Fang Xiu's recollection of the entire plot, plus his personal evaluation.
"That's roughly the situation."
"Strictly speaking, this counts as a comedy film."
Main God Square.
At a circular table, Fang Xiu had already summoned a projector and was playing the original, unedited film without commentary for the members of the Shazhou Team, attempting to give them some understanding of the Eastern background.
"But the problem is, if the Fusang Ghost King actually appears and we have to deal with it, it won't be a comedy at all—it'll be nightmare difficulty!"
As a Central Continent native with a natural cultural advantage, Tang Tian couldn't help but let out a long sigh. "Sigh, that's a Ghost King. Even the imperial court was helpless against it. You have to realize... in this kind of background, the Emperor's words are the law of heaven."
As he spoke, he glanced at the three foreigners beside him.
Odubiao, Emir, and Haida wore grave expressions, but they were not on the verge of a mental breakdown like Tang Tian—who was already losing his composure before they had even entered the dungeon.
"Captain, what is luck?" the Arab woman with light blue eyes raised her hand to ask.
"In traditional Chinese culture, luck is a complex and profound concept. It involves the rise, fall, and transformation of individuals, families, nations, and even the universe. It can be understood as an invisible, inherent force that influences the development of all things."
Fang Xiu organized his thoughts as he answered Haida's question, "Simply put, the more prosperous a dynasty is, the less the demons and heretics dare to stir up trouble."
"Ming Xiaozong, the ninth emperor of the Ming dynasty, was neither a foolish ruler nor a restorer of the nation. The imperial court's strength was still decent, and the national destiny remained intact."
"Therefore, the fact that the Fusang Ghost King from Japan could wreak havoc in this era serves as a side note to how troublesome he is."
"Exactly."
Tang Tian nodded, "The Ming dynasty was plagued by Japanese pirates, and even with the court deploying a massive coastal defense force in the southeast, they were still difficult to suppress."
"The most ferocious among them transformed into a Ghost King, capable of battling land immortals and shaking the An Eternal Combat!"
"It's over, it's all over."
For a moment, the chatterbox kid was at a loss for words. After all, he had never seen the world, and upon hearing that they had to deal with a Ghost King, his performance was no better than that of Ma Shangfeng, the first-rank military officer from the movie.
"Individuals, families, nations, the universe? Luck is that powerful? It can interfere with so many things." The black man who drove a banana truck spoke up, clearly having missed the main point.
Beside him, the burly Emir analyzed, "The moment the Ghost King crossed over, he was suppressed by a cross. If it weren't for someone accidentally using a blood sacrifice, he might never have been able to get out."
Hearing this, Haida nodded slightly and chimed in, "The matter is simple. Since Christianity is effective, why don't we find a way to go to the Vatican after we descend into that world and use the power of the Holy See to exorcise the demon?"
Cultural differences led to a lack of consensus within the Shazhou Team.
Tang Tian infinitely overestimated the Fusang Ghost King and was exceptionally fearful.
The other three took it seriously, yet they thought of it too simply.
