A few days later, Chen Fan invited Sett and Luo Feng out for a meal to let the Hunting Gun Squad get to know each other.
"Come, let me introduce you. This is Sett and Luo Feng, whom I mentioned. From now on, we are all comrades-in-arms," Chen Fan said to the other two in the private room.
"This is Zhao Yong, a low-level War General martial artist who primarily uses a battle blade. Luo Feng, you can ask him for advice in the future," Chen Fan said, pointing to a slightly chubby man.
"This is Yang Hui, our squad's sniper. He has the strength of a high-level martial artist, possesses fast neural reflexes, and mainly uses firearms," Chen Fan said, pointing to a bespectacled young man.
After the four of them exchanged greetings, Zhao Yong and Chen Fan proved to be very enthusiastic people, and Sett, having lived two lives, was also quite good at chatting. Luo Feng and Yang Hui, on the other hand, spoke little, only chiming in occasionally.
"Waiter, serve the food," Chen Fan said, seeing that the atmosphere was just right, and urged them to serve the dishes so they could eat and chat.
There were five people in total, and Chen Fan ordered over a dozen dishes, filling a large table. At a glance, none of them were cheap items.
This table of food was worth a fortune to an ordinary family, but for a martial artist, it was merely a drop in the bucket, especially since Chen Fan was a mid-level War General martial artist; killing two monsters was enough to pay for such meals for a long time.
"Come, come, let's drink," Chen Fan said, filling the glasses of the other four, and the five of them clinked glasses.
As the drinks went down, the atmosphere became more lively.
Zhao Yong and Chen Fan were the founding members of the Hunting Gun Squad, back when they were still Warrior-level martial artists.
"Do you know? Last time, this guy tried to show off by challenging a Beast General solo, but who knew the monster had a Beast General lackey? If I hadn't gone to rescue him, he would have ended up in the monster's stomach."
"Bullshit, that monster didn't play fair and actually called for help."
The two recounted each other's embarrassing moments; Zhao Yong claimed to be Chen Fan's savior, while Chen Fan insisted that without him, Zhao Yong would have been fed to the beasts long ago.
"Alright, we've had our fill of food and drink. This gathering had two main purposes: one was to meet the new members and build rapport so things wouldn't be awkward in the Wilderness Zone. The other was to issue our mission."
"We depart for the Wilderness Zone in five days, next Monday. Since we have two new members, Sett and Luo Feng, we've decided to head to City 048. The primary mission is to help you two get familiar with the Wilderness Zone. Once you've grown, we'll head to larger cities to hunt monsters," Chen Fan said, raising his glass, and the five of them clinked glasses once more.
Learning the first level of the Heavenly God Fist allows one to emit an extra burst of hidden energy, exerting 140% of one's power.
Sett had been practicing the Heavenly God Fist for several days, but every time, he was just a hair's breadth away from finding that feeling.
Let me watch the video again!
Sett entered the Extreme Home and opened the instructional video for the Heavenly God Fist.
The man in the video had his face obscured: "The characteristics of the Heavenly God Fist are speed, precision, and ruthlessness! The first level of this fist technique is very simple; I will demonstrate it once."
Having purchased the manual, Sett could not only read the text but also watch the video to learn, though he could only view the video for the first level.
The man in the video threw ten punches in rapid succession, his fists as fast as lightning. After the ten punches, the video said: "I'm sure you've all learned it. This first level of the Heavenly God Fist is very simple; anyone with hands can do it."
"Damn, I didn't learn anything at all. If you're so tough, why is your face blurred? Don't let me see you, or I'll definitely give you a couple of punches," Sett couldn't help but grumble at the man in the video showing off.
But grumbling aside, Sett continued to practice his punches. The main purpose of practicing the Heavenly God Fist was to improve his power output level; as for the fist technique itself, he didn't care much about it since he had Pummel.
The strongest on Earth right now were only at the Planetary level; how could they compare to his Innate Secret Technique?
"Sett, time to eat!"
"Forget it, let's eat first and find the feeling again this afternoon."
Time passed, and in the blink of an eye, it was time for the Hunting Gun Squad to head out on their mission. That day, Sett put on his custom-made brass knuckles, wore a tactical vest, strapped on his communication watch, and shouldered his martial artist backpack, which was filled with water and compressed biscuits.
"Whoo, Wilderness Zone, here I come!" Sett shouted, leaving amidst the reminders from his family.
"Stay safe."
"Come back early."
Luo Feng and Sett met up outside their residential complex and took the Extreme Martial Arts Hall's private car to the HR Alliance mall to meet the other three members of the Hunting Gun Squad.
The HR Alliance mall was located in the main urban area of Jiangnan Base City, an 88-story skyscraper surrounded by soldiers patrolling with live ammunition.
However, the private car from the Extreme Martial Arts Hall carrying Sett and Luo Feng entered the HR building without any obstruction.
The two found a sofa in the lobby to sit and wait for the other three.
"Captain, over here." After entering, Sett's eyes had been darting around, but he hadn't noticed anything until he spotted the other three.
"Sett, Luo Feng, you're early," the three said, sitting down with them. All five were fully armed, and Yang Hui even carried two large guns on his back.
"The biggest advantage of this HR mall is that they buy the materials from the monsters we hunt at high prices. If you sell them to the martial arts hall, the price is lower, but you get contribution points. The Alliance mall offers higher prices but no contribution points; it depends on your choice," Chen Fan explained to Sett and Luo Feng.
The five drank beverages and chatted idly.
"Luo Feng, look, who is that?" Sett's eyes lit up as he patted Luo Feng on the shoulder and pointed toward a manager at the bar counter.
"Xu Xin?" Luo Feng said in disbelief as he saw the female manager at the bar.
"What are you waiting for? Go on," Sett said, nudging Luo Feng.
"Brother Chen, Brother Zhao, Brother Yang, I'll be right back." Luo Feng left his gear on the sofa and stood up with a smile to head toward the bar.
Xu Xin was busy with her work when she suddenly heard someone calling her name.
"Xu Xin."
Xu Xin was startled; here, people usually called her Manager Xu, and this voice sounded very familiar. She looked up and saw a familiar face.
"Ah, Luo Feng, why are you here?" Xu Xin asked with a smile.
Their eyes met, and a sudden flutter stirred in both their hearts.
Sett watched their encounter from the sofa, thinking that this was a success, and felt happy for his good friend.
"Then I'll be going now, let's grab a meal together next time." After exchanging a few brief words with Xu Xin, Luo Feng realized this wasn't the right place for a conversation.
Seeing Luo Feng turn to leave, Xu Xin suddenly called out, "Be careful in the Wilderness Zone!"
"Alright, I'll keep that in mind," Luo Feng replied with a smile.
The four of them watched as Luo Feng walked over with a grin, and Zhao Yong patted him on the shoulder, saying, "Kid, you've already got something going on? That's impressive."
"You old-timer wouldn't understand the youth of today; the beauty was practically throwing herself at him," Chen Fan teased.
"Go on, go on, what do you know? Men only get better with age."
After packing up their gear, the Hunting Gun Squad boarded an HR Alliance private vehicle and headed to the train station, departing the base city for the Wilderness Zone by rail.
Clack-clack, clack-clack. After traveling several hundred kilometers away from Jiangnan Base City, the train pulled into a military district and came to a stop.
The doors opened, and the martial artists jumped off the train one after another, naturally splitting into their respective squads.
"Sett, Luo Feng, we're heading out to hunt monsters, and we'll return to the military district for resupply along the way. Across the globe, military districts in every country designate special areas as martial artist supply stations, allowing us to rest. These supply stations are like lighthouses, lighting the way home for us."
The captain took a key from an officer and led them toward a three-story building to rest.
"It's only noon, so get some rest quickly. We'll officially set out this evening," Chen Fan said to everyone after opening the door.
Zhao Yong and Yang Hui tossed their equipment aside and each found a room to rest in.
"Setting out in the evening?" Luo Feng couldn't help but ask.
"It's August, the hottest time of the year. If we trek while carrying hundreds of kilograms of gear, no amount of water would be enough to drink. Traveling at night isn't just cooler; it also saves water," Chen Fan explained with a smile.
"The Wilderness Zone is truly full of lessons," Luo Feng laughed.
After speaking, the three of them returned to their rooms to rest.
After all, the Wilderness Zone was crawling with monsters; if their minds weren't sharp, they might end up being eaten by a monster while dozing off.
By evening, the five of them had finished packing and grabbed their respective gear. Captain Chen Fan carried a long spear on his back, looking imposing and majestic.
"Yang Hui, let me carry those two cases of ammunition for you." After taking the two large cases from Yang Hui, the five of them fully armed themselves, left the supply base, and officially entered the Wilderness Zone.
