"Linley, I'm heading off first."
At the classroom door, Delia said goodbye to Linley. Dixie was standing beside her.
"Linley, I'll surpass you."
Dixie spoke with a cold expression, then took Delia and left without another word.
Delia could only turn around awkwardly and wave goodbye to Linley.
"Linley!" Doehring emerged from the Coiling Dragon Ring. "I think this Delia is much better than that Alice!"
Linley looked at Doehring in confusion. "Grandpa Doehring, what are you talking about?"
Linley's reaction left Doehring feeling helpless.
Only then did he remember that Linley was just nine years old, still a little kid.
Although he was powerful, matters of love between men and women were an entirely unfamiliar subject to him.
All the way back to the dormitory, Linley couldn't get Doehring to explain what was different between Alice and Delia.
George was an Earth Element magician, and his classes ran from eight to ten in the morning.
Reynolds was a Fire Element magician, and his classes ran from ten thirty to twelve thirty.
So George and Reynolds were both in the dormitory.
But Yale was a Lightning Element magician, and his classes ran from seven to nine at night.
Linley hadn't even reached the dormitory courtyard when Yale hurried past him on his way to class.
As Linley pushed the door open, Bebe darted out from his arms like a streak of light.
Linley had kept Bebe tucked away during class, so the little fellow had been cooped up for a while.
"Third Bro, let's go eat dinner after Big Bro Yale gets out of class." Reynolds held a glass of juice as he spoke to Linley. "If you're hungry, I've got some jerky here."
"No." Linley shook his head. "I'll cultivate for a while. Give me a shout when Big Bro Yale gets back."
With that, Linley went straight to his room.
"Third Bro works so hard!" Reynolds rubbed his chin. "He's talented and hardworking. He's not leaving the rest of us any room to live!"
"You think everyone's like you?" George said with a laugh. "Big Bro Yale still has two hours of class. Let's go back to our rooms and meditate too!"
With that, George got up and headed to his room. Reynolds let out a groan, but went to his room as well.
Meanwhile, after returning to his room, Linley sat cross-legged on the bed and took out two pills.
They were only the size of a longan, and completely snow-white.
They were the Law Fusion Pills he'd been rewarded earlier.
Looking at the two pills in his hand, Linley contacted Lin Ke in the System Space. "Big Brother Lin Ke, does the Law Fusion Pill fuse things at random?"
"Of course not." Lin Ke's voice sounded in Linley's mind. "After taking a Law Fusion Pill, you'll recall the Laws and Profound Mysteries you've comprehended. The pill will help you find the common ground between two profound mysteries and quickly grasp the basics of fusing them. However, it only works with profound mysteries of the same Law. Unless you're a Soul Mutation, you can't fuse different Laws and Profound Mysteries."
Lin Ke hadn't told him everything.
The system could manufacture Heterogeneous Law Fusion Pills.
Even someone without a Soul Mutation could fuse different Laws by taking a Heterogeneous Law Fusion Pill.
But the price was simply too high.
At the very least, Linley didn't have even a fraction of the Energy Points needed to make one.
After hearing Lin Ke's explanation, Linley looked again at the two pills in his hand.
"I'll start with the Wind Element Laws." Linley put one of the pills in his mouth. "The first two profound mysteries I comprehended were Fast and Slow, so I'll start with those."
Linley tipped his head back and swallowed the pill, then closed his eyes and began to comprehend.
"When something is fast enough, it seems almost motionless. Could that count as another kind of slowness? Fast and slow aren't opposites; they're two aspects of the same thing. That's speed..."
The difficulties Linley had encountered while comprehending the Mysteries of Fast and Slow suddenly became clear.
The two profound mysteries had found common ground.
The Mysteries of Fast and Slow began to fuse.
"The Profound Mystery of Speed!"
After a while, Linley opened his eyes, and his figure appeared at the doorway in an instant.
But if someone had been watching, they would have seen that Linley's every movement seemed to be in slow motion.
He was moving at the utmost speed, yet somehow also at the utmost slowness.
Everything seemed utterly contradictory.
"This is the Profound Mystery of Speed. Unfortunately, I haven't comprehended enough yet. I still have a long way to go before I can fully fuse them."
A smile appeared on Linley's face. After successfully fusing two Wind Element Laws and Profound Mysteries, he could clearly feel his strength increasing.
"Has more than an hour already passed?"
Linley glanced at the clock in his room. It was already eight twenty.
But to him, only a few minutes seemed to have passed.
That was mainly thanks to the effect of the Law Fusion Pill.
Normally, fusing Laws and Profound Mysteries would take at least several months.
However, aside from the initial discovery of common ground and the final complete fusion, there were no bottlenecks along the way.
Linley only had to keep comprehending and fusing them step by step.
In other words, Linley had already secured his ticket to becoming a Low-God.
After all, fusing two profound mysteries to ten percent was enough to ascend to Low-God.
Even if Lin Ke couldn't help him with anything else from this point on, Linley was certain to become a god within twenty or thirty years.
"Big Bro Yale won't finish class for almost another hour." Linley looked at the remaining Law Fusion Pill. "In that case, I'll fuse the Profound Mystery of Earth Pulse with the Profound Mystery of Earth Element."
With that, he swallowed the pill.
Of all the profound mysteries Linley had comprehended in the Earth and Wind Elements, the Profound Mystery of Earth Pulse was the one he understood best.
But fusing it with the Profound Mystery of Earth Element took more time than he'd expected.
By nine ten, Yale had finished class and returned to the dormitory.
But while Yale, George, and Reynolds waited in the courtyard, Linley still hadn't appeared.
Reynolds looked anxiously at Linley's room. "Do you think something happened to Third Bro? Should we knock?"
"Better not." George quickly stopped him. "If Third Bro's at a critical point in his cultivation, knocking might interrupt him. That would be bad enough, but if it hurt him, we'd be in trouble."
"Second Bro's right." Yale nodded slightly. "Let's wait another half hour. If Third Bro still doesn't come out, we'll go eat first and bring him something back."
George and Reynolds had no objections.
Half an hour passed in a flash.
Just as Yale was about to speak, Linley's room began to shake violently.
Yale, George, and Reynolds all stared at it in alarm. At the slightest sign that something was wrong, they were ready to rush in and save Linley.
Fortunately, the shaking stopped after only an instant, and Linley opened the door and stepped out.
"Sorry, I lost track of time while cultivating." Linley was smiling, and seemed to be in a very good mood. "Dinner's on me tonight. Order whatever you want."
"Eek!"
"Boss, you're finally out! I'm starving!"
Bebe appeared on Linley's shoulder in a streak of light.
"Okay, okay. I'll make sure you get your fill tonight." Linley laughed and rubbed Bebe's head. "You can have whatever you want. Order as much as you like."
"Eek!"
"You said it, Boss! I want honey-glazed steak. The steak has to be from a Bloodthirsty Iron Bull. And juice, and..."
The four of them headed for the Huali Hotel inside Ernst Institute, while Bebe kept listing dishes from Linley's shoulder.
Linley glanced at the System Panel in front of him, the corners of his mouth turning up in a smile.
