Deep beneath Kara Star.
In a scorching underground cavern, a river of dark red lava nearly ten meters wide flowed slowly. In its glow, the surrounding black rock, solidified under intense heat, revealed a myriad of jagged, bizarre shapes.
Countless streams of magma welled up continuously from deep within the earth, then wound along the lava river into still deeper reaches underground.
Rustle, rustle... Just then, the sound of something sliding rapidly came from a pitch-black, waist-high tunnel some distance from the lava river. A scattering of small stones tumbled out of its mouth.
Then two dark shapes shot out of the tunnel one after the other with two sharp whooshes, sending broken stones flying.
Thud! Thud! The two figures hit the ground and continued rolling and sliding for some distance before stopping amid a cloud of dust.
"Wow! This is way more exciting than atmospheric surfing!" A silver figure slowly stood up, Nie Yun's voice coming from behind his faceplate.
Compared with his bedraggled companion, who had rolled helplessly to absorb the impact, Nie Yun's landing would have earned a 9.9 even in gymnastics.
"Ugh... atmospheric surfing? What's that?" Rose held her head as she staggered to her feet, clearly still a little dizzy. Her Bio-Armor was dusty and looked rather worse for wear.
"Oh, it's an extreme sport back home. I'll take you along sometime." Nie Yun answered casually, then began examining their surroundings.
The two figures were none other than Nie Yun and Rose. A little earlier, following Rose's lead, Nie Yun had jumped into a cavern near a volcanic crater. After descending through a long, winding chute for nearly half an hour, they had finally arrived in this underground space.
