Background / History
Nie Yun was an orphan adopted by the man he calls Old Man. He left school after primary education and inherited both Old Man’s livelihood and his decrepit fishing boat, the Sea Wolf. Despite being a skilled fisherman, he lived hand-to-mouth because he refused to abandon the vessel that connected him to his foster father. 1 2
While fishing alone, Nie Yun is struck in the abdomen by a meteorite fragment. The impact kills him instantly, but the fragment’s alien Mechanical Insects fuse with his body and revive him. He quickly accepts the impossible situation, treating every day after his revival as a bonus. 1 4
After the damaged Sea Wolf returns to Nanwan Pier, Nie Yun rejects Uncle Liu’s offer to abandon the boat and work for him. He also refuses Chu Xiaoxiao’s offer to bring him into her family, though he sincerely asks her to forgive Old Man and visit his grave. 2 3
His discovery that the silver material on the Sea Wolf is a Mechanical Insect colony changes his future. He uses the swarm to repair and reinforce the boat, salvage shipwrecks, uncover valuable coins, and gradually turn his solitary fishing operation into a concealed technological force. 4 6 15
Appearance
At seventeen, Nie Yun is thin, dark-skinned, and visibly weathered by his life at sea. He usually dresses like an ordinary fisherman, which contrasts sharply with the advanced technology under his control. 1 22 40
- Tanned, dark complexion from working at sea. 22 40
- Thin build. 40
- Often wears a dusty undershirt or small vest with rolled-up jeans. 22 44
- Initially appears unremarkable enough that investigators identify him simply as a Nanwan Pier fisherman. 40
Personality
Nie Yun is fiercely independent and deeply sentimental about the Sea Wolf and Old Man. He refuses charity when it would require abandoning either his life at sea or his foster father’s legacy. 2 3 12
He is pragmatic, adaptable, and unusually quick to normalize extraordinary events. Rather than panic over his alien symbiosis, he immediately tests what the Mechanical Insects can repair, consume, reproduce from, or imitate. 4 6 14
His easygoing humor and lack of formal education often make him appear naïve or unsophisticated. He jokes with his robots, becomes excited by food and unexpected wealth, and initially sees himself primarily as a fisherman. 15 16 24
Beneath that demeanor, he is cautious and ruthless when threatened. His experience surviving alone at Nanwan Pier taught him not to be prey, and he shows little hesitation in using lethal or coercive measures against enemies and unreliable subordinates. 7 32 39
Abilities & Skills
Mechanical Insect Symbiosis
Nie Yun shares a mutual bond with alien Mechanical Insects that can consume materials, reconstruct objects, and act as extensions of his body and mind. 1 6 41
- Repairs, reinforces, and reconstructs ships and equipment from consumed material. 4 13 34
- Directs the swarm to reproduce using scrap metal and available energy. 4 5
- Alters an object’s appearance, including restoring the Sea Wolf’s worn fishing-boat camouflage. 6
- Remotely controls Mechanical Insects regardless of distance, allowing the Sea Wolf to operate without a visible crew. 12
- Stores weapons and equipment as liquid-metal-like bracelets or compact forms. 13 32
- Can use thermal energy to restore his own strength. 18
- Large-scale or highly detailed commands consume his physical stamina, and sustained swarm operations require energy input. 7 15
Technological Assimilation
By having Mechanical Insects digest devices, Nie Yun can understand and reproduce their internal structures, rapidly gaining technical knowledge beyond his formal education. 14 24
- Absorbed a satellite phone’s construction and gained knowledge of electronics and mechanics. 14
- Uses the swarm’s storage and calculation abilities as an external brain. 41
- Rapidly learns from digital information, including internet technology, hacking concepts, and nuclear principles. 41
- Creates and updates programs for robotic workers, including synchronized improvements based on operating errors. 24 36
Weapon Integration and Combat
Nie Yun enhances weapons by assimilating them into the Mechanical Insects and can directly sense their mechanisms while using them. 13 34
- Reinforced a Swiss Army knife until it could cut iron with ease. 13
- Integrated pistols into his swarm, improving his handling and allowing a firearm to transform into a bracelet. 13
- Replicates and deploys military hardware such as assault rifles, rocket launchers, grenades, jamming equipment, and cannons. 20 34
- Uses deception, robotic decoys, and controlled self-destruction to defeat hostile mercenaries. 31 32
- Hijacks vessels through “ghost ship” tactics and ether gas rather than direct confrontation. 49
Naval Engineering and Robotics
Nie Yun designs ships, bases, and robot crews around the Mechanical Insects’ capabilities. 24 34 36
- Converted the Sea Wolf from a patched fishing boat into an armed hybrid-powered warship with underwater navigation. 34
- Saved the Sea Wolf warship design in the Mechanical Insects’ model library for rapid assembly. 35
- Tested the Sea Wolf’s deep-sea diving capacity to 7,500 meters. 35
- Commands Xiaohai and Xiaolang robot units for navigation, maintenance, transport, exploration, and combat support. 24 36
- Builds and expands an underwater base for concealment, seabed resources, and automated construction. 36
Nuclear Fuel Production
Nie Yun uses the Mechanical Insects to extract and purify uranium from seawater. 41 42
- Produces highly enriched uranium through Mechanical Spider processing. 42
- Supplies a one-kilogram uranium sample confirmed at 90% concentration by Professor Fang. 45
- Seeks to exchange nuclear fuel for advanced military-industrial technology and ship upgrades. 43

Story Role / Major Arcs
Fisherman and First Fusion
Nie Yun begins as a struggling lone fisherman whose only major possession is the failing Sea Wolf. His death and revival by the Mechanical Insects give him the means to preserve the boat and escape the limits of his former life. 1 4
Chu Xiaoxiao’s First Kidnapping
After recognizing Chu Xiaoxiao as Old Man’s daughter, Nie Yun observes her abduction, rescues her from the kidnappers, and returns her to safety while concealing his involvement and the Sea Wolf’s true nature. 7 9 12
Salvage, Wealth, and Expansion

“No one can covet my wealth on my turf, let alone try to harm my friends!” 32
Trivia
- Nie Yun completed only primary school before becoming a fisherman. 1
- He calls the Sea Wolf his brother and once planned to give the damaged boat a “funeral.” 3
- His Nanwan Pier nickname, “Sea Wolf,” predates the warship form of his boat. 7
- He names his robot units Xiaohai and Xiaolang, then explicitly forbids “office romances” among them. 24
