ME Company had once been a major corporation controlled by Mei's father, Raiden Ryoma, and was extremely famous throughout Japan.
Under Raiden Ryoma's leadership, the company might not have seen its stock multiply several times every day, but it had certainly been flourishing.
Back then, Mei had also been Japan's top young lady, envied beyond measure by everyone.
But everything changed after Raiden Ryoma encountered Cocolia, the biggest scumbag in all of Honkai Impact 3rd.
Coveting ME Company's enormous funds, Cocolia directly framed Raiden Ryoma and ruined his reputation.
As a result, Mei went from being a young lady of high society to the despised daughter of a criminal.
Of course, Old Mi had wanted to patch up Cocolia's character more than once.
To whitewash Cocolia, he even threw every bit of blame in Sea of Quanta City onto the tool-man Grey Serpent, including but not limited to breaking Sea of Quanta City's seal and injecting the twins with Honkai Beast cells.
All of that became Grey Serpent's plan. (Tool-man Grey Serpent said he was used to taking the blame.)
Cocolia's role then became that of a good mother and orphanage director who only wanted what was best for the children.
But even after all that whitewashing, Old Mi still realized, Holy shit, this character was written way too dark. She couldn't be salvaged at all.
After all, this was someone who could unleash a Honkai outbreak on Changkong City just to obtain a complete Gem, killing hundreds of thousands in the process. Then there was creating Joyce Clones, killing Wendy to extract the Gem, planning to activate Godsbane, opening Sea of Quanta City and releasing the final boss of the first part of Honkai, and a whole string of other things.
