Background

Naruto first encounters Hyuga Fuyuki and Hinata after being kicked into a river. Unable to distinguish the nearly identical twins at first, he confronts both of them, only for Fuyuki to throw him back into the water. He later identifies Fuyuki by his far more confrontational personality. 8

He trains under the Third Hokage with Fuyuki and Sakura, where Fuyuki and Naruto's banter develops into a competitive friendship. Naruto eventually describes both Fuyuki and Sasuke as “god-like” friends, while still withholding their information from Jiraiya because he does not trust him fully. 10 80

During the Chūnin Exams, Naruto faces Fuyuki in the opening match of the third round. Unable to overwhelm him with more than sixty Rasengan-wielding shadow clones, Naruto draws on Kurama's chakra and enters a four-tailed state. 85

Naruto later learns about Kushina within his Mental Space and confronts the unstable relationship between his own will and Kurama's influence. Fuyuki enters the space during one of Kurama's rampages, restrains the Nine-Tails, and leaves Naruto with a calmer but embarrassed fox. 99

Naruto is initially carefree and unmotivated by conventional strength. After losing to Moryo's brutal sparring, he accepts the defeat with much less resentment than Sasuke, having joined the training primarily to keep his friend company. 46

He is impulsive, shameless, and willing to use unconventional Transformation Techniques, but he is also loyal. He refuses to casually reveal Fuyuki's information to Jiraiya despite barely knowing the Sannin, and later asks Fuyuki and Sasuke to spare Obito because of Minato's request. 80 243

Although Naruto appears loud and careless, he is highly sensitive to others' emotions. He recognizes Sasuke's conflicted feelings after Sasuke defeats Itachi, even when Sasuke himself cannot identify what he feels. 201
