Beerus's eyes widened, his golden vertical pupils narrowing to slits.
The fluctuation was incredibly faint, as faint as someone sneezing hundreds of light-years away.
Yet to his senses, it was more piercing than ten thousand supernovas exploding at once.
Because this fluctuation touched the fundamental laws of the universe.
In Universe 7, there were only two beings, at most, who could reach into the realm of those laws.
One was that Supreme Kai who did nothing but plant trees and water them all day, a weakling of an idiot responsible for creating planets and spreading life.
The other was Beerus himself, responsible for erasing warped, unworthy civilizations along with their planets.
Creation.
Destruction.
These were the foundations upon which the universe operated.
And now, a third person had actually reached this realm.
"Whis!"
Beerus shouted at the top of his lungs, his voice carrying an irritation even he hadn't noticed.
On the lawn nearby, Whis held a gold-rimmed bone china teacup, leisurely pouring black tea into it.
"Oh my, Lord Beerus. You're awake quite early today."
Whis took a sip of tea and turned toward him with a smile. "I thought you would sleep another fifty years. What is it? Did you have a nightmare?"
"Don't play dumb with me!"
Beerus leaped down from the tree branch, strode over to Whis, and slapped a hand onto the tea table.
"Don't tell me you didn't sense that fluctuation just now!"
"I did."
Whis set down his teacup and wiped the corner of his mouth with a white handkerchief. "You seem rather nervous, Lord Beerus. How very unusual. A mighty God of Destruction, so frightened by a faint fluctuation that his fur stands on end?"
