"Dr. Zhang Qi, can we—really defeat the Trisolarans with human intelligence?"
Taylor's voice lingered in the room.
Zhang Qi did not answer immediately. Instead, he leaned back in his chair, his fingers lightly tapping the armrest with a dull, monotonous "tap, tap."

The sound was the room's only rhythm, striking against Taylor's taut nerves.
"Is this question part of your Wallfacer Project?"
"A trap set to test the Trisolarans?"
After pondering for a moment, Zhang Qi spoke again, voicing his question.
At that answer, Frederick Taylor's shoulders abruptly stiffened. His eyes filled with astonishment, only for it to be replaced by an even deeper exhaustion.
Then, as though someone had pulled his spine out, he slumped completely against the chair back and shook his head with a bitter smile.
"No. This is just idle chatter between two Wallfacers—the sort that wouldn't matter even if the Trisolarans heard it."
Frederick Taylor paused, seemingly choosing his words. "From the day I became a Wallfacer, I have been searching for a superweapon that could settle everything in one stroke.
"A weapon that would keep fleets, soldiers, and that cold steel from seeming like paper before the Trisolaran fleet."
His gaze drifted toward the window, settling on the silent, mountain-like hull of the Tang.
"Then I saw the paper you and Dr. Ding Yi published.
"About macro-atoms, about—"
His voice dropped. "Quantum ghosts."
"As long as one's will is strong enough, one can achieve self-observation on a macroscopic level, thereby interfering with one's own state of existence.
"While retaining macroscopic interference capabilities, one can enter a state of—quantum superposition."
"In other words, become a ghost soldier who cannot be locked onto by conventional means and cannot be precisely described by physical laws."
