Of course, these paths to popularity were just ideas Chen Zhao had come up with himself; in reality, becoming famous was far from that simple. These were merely three potential routes.
Chen Zhao pondered which streamer path he should take.
First was the "rely on your looks" type, for which he definitely didn't qualify. Chen Zhao lacked confidence in his appearance; after all, he had been single since birth. If he were even slightly handsome, would he still be without a girlfriend?
Having been single for so many years, he had to have some self-awareness about the reason why!
So, relying on his face was definitely out of the question.
What about the humorous, witty banter route?
That path wouldn't work either. Chen Zhao was, generally speaking, a rather introverted person. Telling jokes and spewing witty remarks might seem like just moving one's lips, but in reality, it was far from simple! Humor was a difficult thing to cultivate; for the most part, it was innate. Forcing humor would only turn him into a master of awkward conversations and a king of dad jokes.
That left only the skill-based streamer route.
By relying on superb skills to counter-kill enemies time and time again—winner winner, chicken dinner—over time, he would gradually attract viewers who loved watching skill-based streamers.
Chen Zhao was already quite confident in his own skills. He estimated that he had spent at least 1,200 hours on PUBG over the past three years. He played a couple of rounds whenever he had free time, so he definitely counted as a veteran. Furthermore, his IQ had skyrocketed; one had to know that reaction speed and strategic awareness were also parts of intelligence! Perhaps his PUBG skills would also advance by leaps and bounds along with his IQ?
Talk is cheap, and since he was feeling quite energetic tonight, he decided to just start a stream and test his feel for the game.
Chen Zhao searched online and discovered that the streaming platforms in this world were different from those in his previous life. The most popular platform with the highest traffic was Fighting Panda Live, where many top-tier players resided. Following the website's instructions, Chen Zhao registered a streamer account.
What should he use for a username?
Chen Zhao thought about it. A real man doesn't change his name when he stands or sits; using some flashy, exaggerated, or flamboyant name was useless. He might as well just use his real name!
Streamer "Chen Zhao" registered successfully!
After fiddling with it for a while, Chen Zhao learned how to operate the stream.
This computer didn't have a webcam, so Chen Zhao couldn't show his face and could only use his headset to speak. However, not showing his face was fine; it maintained a bit of mystery. His voice was quite magnetic and deep, so perhaps some female fans would think he was Eddie Peng?
Chen Zhao opened his stream, switched to the game interface, and queued for a simple solo match on Erangel.
Soon, Chen Zhao entered the spawn island.
All sorts of noisy voices came through his headset, clamoring:
"Selling hacks! Selling hacks! Wallhacks, aimbots, health locks! Pay extra and get the plane-explosion hack!" a child's voice shouted.
"Damn you, you orphan! Go to hell, you hack-seller!" an older man's voice retorted.
"Order the full set of hacks and get a free 99-kill-on-landing hack!" the hack-selling child continued to yell.
"Holy crap, are hacks really this insane nowadays? Exploding planes? 99 kills on landing?" a young man said, shocked.
Soon, a group of people surrounded the hack-selling child and began to punch and kick him.
Chen Zhao felt quite helpless. The spawn island was always like this; when you get a hundred people together, you get all sorts of characters, and you hear everything. Occasionally, you run into hack-sellers. Some are the real deal, while others are just trolling to get other players to go AFK or quit.
At the same time, inside the stream of "Wolf Brother," a streamer with 10 million followers on the Fighting Panda Live platform.
"There are more and more hackers these days," Wolf Brother sighed. "But don't panic. As long as it's not a health-lock hack, I, Wolf Brother, will put on a show of slaying the gods for you all! If it is a health-lock hack, I'll just report them with a flick of my hand and then log off in shame!"
Chen Zhao had no idea that he had been matched into the same game as the top PUBG streamer on Fighting Panda Live, "Wolf Brother"!
