The countdown ended.
All players were on the pitch-black plane, flying toward the Island Map.
Chen Zhao first checked the status of his livestream and discovered... there wasn't a single viewer. He sighed; as expected, an unknown rookie streamer wouldn't attract anyone. However, tonight was just about testing his feel for PUBG after his intelligence boost, so it didn't matter if anyone was watching.
Switching back to the game, he opened the mini-map to check the flight path.
The path was very skewed, running from P Port to N Port, passing over the upper edge of the Military Base.
Chen Zhao frowned slightly; this was the flight path he least wanted to see. He usually liked to find small clusters of houses in the wild to play cautiously and gear up, but there were too few such spots reachable from this path.
After a moment of thought, Chen Zhao decided against the small houses and chose to jump straight to the Military Base to see if he could handle a hot drop!
He placed a marker.
The distance kept shrinking: 1600, 1500, 1400, jump!
Chen Zhao was fully focused on the game, unaware that three viewers had trickled into his stream.
As soon as the three viewers entered, they saw Chen Zhao flying toward the Military Base and began typing comments:
"Military Base? Is he planning to go aggressive?"
"This streamer's level is so low, a rookie? Are rookies really this reckless?"
"Oh haha, he's going to be a lobby-bound crate the moment he lands!"
The viewers were not optimistic about Chen Zhao.
In the blink of an eye, he landed, right on the roof of the C-shaped Building in the center of the Military Base.
Chen Zhao was panicking, because he wasn't the only one on the roof—there were two others! The other two were on the roofs of the adjacent buildings, practically within arm's reach!
He quickly scanned his surroundings, and Chen Zhao's heart went cold; there was only one weapon near him, a long, black M24 bolt-action sniper rifle!
Chen Zhao had always disliked bolt-action snipers. In the early days of PUBG, they were formidable, often knocking someone down with a single body shot. But after several stat nerfs, their power had dropped significantly; a body shot would take off at most four-fifths of a player's health, requiring two body shots or one headshot to secure a knock.
If sniping from a distance, the M24's high power was decent, but at a range of just over ten meters, a bolt-action sniper was useless!
If the others had submachine guns or assault rifles, he'd be dead in a single spray!
But with no other options, Chen Zhao had to bite the bullet and pick up the M24. There wasn't even a scope nearby; it was just an M24 with iron sights.
Turning his head to look at the two enemies on the adjacent roofs, Chen Zhao was stunned.
In less than three seconds, one of the enemies had already equipped a Level 3 Helmet and held a UMP9 submachine gun, while the other held a SCAR assault rifle, complete with a 3x scope!
Damn it, why is your gear so good!
As if they had planned it, both enemies pointed their guns at Chen Zhao simultaneously!
The next second, both opened fire!
Bullets whistled toward him, and Chen Zhao immediately lost his nerve, leaping off the building. The roof was wide open with no cover; jumping was the only way to avoid the bullets!
The moment he jumped, Chen Zhao subconsciously fired a shot at the enemy with the Level 3 Helmet.
This shot was completely unconscious; he hadn't aimed deliberately, just fired on instinct.
Therefore, Chen Zhao didn't expect to hit anything at all.
However, before he even hit the ground, a kill notification popped up:
"You used M24 to kill player yingyingguai!"
Landing, Chen Zhao rolled and crawled through a window into the building. He had less than one-fifth of his health left from being shot, but he happened to find ten bandages in the room. Chen Zhao huddled in a corner and began frantically applying bandages to recover health.
While healing, he felt dazed.
Did he just kill that Level 3 Helmet enemy with one shot?
If the shot had hit the torso, it was possible to kill the enemy instantly if they hadn't found a vest yet. But he had just fired on reflex, in less than half a second, without even aiming!
After thinking for a few seconds, Chen Zhao decided it must have been luck. Although he had practiced "flick shots" before, he had never mastered them. He figured this was just a case of a blind cat stumbling upon a dead mouse.
In the livestream, the three viewers were all surprised:
"One-shot kill?"
"He fired in mid-air while jumping? Is he that good?!"
"Was it luck or a flick shot? Hmm... let's keep watching. This is interesting."
After finishing his bandages, he stood up and searched the nearby rooms.
The resources in this C-shaped Building were quite rich, which was why so many people jumped here.
After clearing the first floor, Chen Zhao had a Level 2 Helmet, a Level 2 Vest, and a bulging Level 3 Backpack. He just hadn't found a new gun yet.
He went upstairs to search the second floor.
Meanwhile, at N Port.
Wolf Brother landed and grabbed an M416.
"Whoa! Good luck, time to slaughter the port!" Wolf Brother said in a relaxed tone to his stream.
There were already several people who had just landed nearby. Wolf Brother didn't hesitate, raised his gun, and fired!
"You used an M416 to kill player Goushi!"
"You used an M416 to kill player Patrick Star!"
With the magazine emptied, Wolf Brother ducked behind a shipping container, reloaded, and poked his head out once more.
Two more enemies were jumping around in the grass in the distance, shooting at each other with shotguns. Wolf Brother, known for his steady style, took them both out with a few precise bursts.
N Port instantly fell silent!
Because every enemy who had landed nearby had been shot dead!
In Wolf Brother's stream, the audience began spamming "666." As expected of the most popular technical PUBG streamer on Fighting Panda Live, Wolf Brother never disappointed. Four kills upon landing, N Port leveled—who else could do it?
After a quick loot of the crates, Wolf Brother retreated into a shipping container to drink an energy drink while thanking the big spenders in his chat for their gifts:
"Thanks to Capital's Number One Handsome for the six helicopters!"
"Thanks to Fei County Captain for the unicorn!"
"Thanks to Cute Bunny Girl for the twenty heart-beam guns!"
This was Wolf Brother's signature streaming style: after every flashy play, he would tuck himself into a safe corner to thank the big donors before continuing on his way.
After leisurely looting N Port, the circle began to shrink. Wolf Brother opened his mini-map, marked a spot at the Research Institute, and told his viewers, "Alright, let's head to the Research Institute and wait for some prey."
Meanwhile, at the Military Base.
Chen Zhao crouched in the corner of a top-floor room, clutching an S1897, trembling.
On the mini-map, orange-red footsteps were pulsing; the enemy had already crept up. The footsteps in his headset were chaotic and loud, sounding as if they were downstairs, or perhaps right at the door, about to burst in.
Chen Zhao felt it was truly cursed. He had looted this entire building, picking up five energy drinks and five Painkillers, but he hadn't found a single submachine gun or assault rifle. All he had was a shotgun—and the worst one at that, the S1897. Now that the enemy was closing in, he couldn't even run; he could only huddle in the corner and pray not to be discovered.
Looking at the S1897 in his hands, Chen Zhao felt a wave of helplessness. How was he supposed to fight with this piece of junk?
Was he really just a delivery boy for someone else's loot?
Suddenly, the footsteps became exceptionally clear. The next second, a figure rushed in, wielding an M762 with its explosive damage!
Chen Zhao jumped in fright and fired a shot without thinking!
"Bang!"
"You used an S1897 to headshot and kill player Xiao Momo." A kill notification popped up.
Chen Zhao stared at the crate with wisps of smoke rising from it and the corpse sprawled on the ground, stunned.
One-shot kill?
He hadn't even aimed! He had fired instinctively, so how did it result in a headshot?
Could it be... that the manifestation of his increased intelligence in PUBG was that he didn't need to aim deliberately to land a one-shot kill?
