Background
Richard chose external apotheosis rather than becoming a god within his body. The method tore his soul in half and produced a wind-element divine clone, at the cost of severe but recoverable soul weakness 1. He chose this route because it preserved his ability to attain godhood through additional laws and rules.
A divine clone is simultaneously Richard and an independent consciousness: it is not a separate personality or mere multitasking, but a higher-level unified existence. It shares Richard's law comprehension while independently handling cultivation, combat, travel, and research 2.
Richard subsequently created clones aligned with Water, Life, Death, Fate, Earth, Fire, Thunder, Light, Darkness, and Destruction. By the time his remaining Light, Darkness, and Destruction clones ascended, he possessed eleven elemental-law and rule-based divine clones, an achievement described as likely unprecedented in the Coiling Dragon World 148.
Nature and Limitations
- A divine clone is formed when Richard independently becomes a god through a particular law or rule, requiring another painful division of his soul 1 34.
- The clone and Richard's main body share comprehension of laws, allowing each clone to specialize in one path while feeding its insights back to the whole 2 129.
- Within the Coiling Dragon World, a clone can use only the laws of its own element or rule; it cannot employ every law known by Richard 16.
- Richard's main body does not inherently possess a godhead or Divine Domain under this system, and borrows divine power from his clones 16.
- Divine clones can bleed and be injured. Their death is permanent; refining a replacement godhead would not restore the lost clone 22.
- A clone's strength can be reduced in worlds whose underlying laws conflict with its home-world system 16.
