Stevens won Head Coach of the 2015-2016 season with 42% of the vote, comfortably beating Cole (19%) and Popovich (10%).
The result was expected.
The Pelicans and Warriors had been the two most dazzling teams this season, and both had broken the Regular Season wins record.
But the Warriors had already won 67 games last season, so their improvement in wins had not actually been that significant.
Under normal circumstances, 73 Wins would have been enough for Cole to win Head Coach.
Unfortunately, there was also the 74-win Pelicans this season.
By comparison, Cole had no chance at all. Receiving 19% of the votes was already considered the media showing him some favoritism.
That made Cole rather unlucky. Budenholzer had snatched it from him last season, when his 67 wins had given him the League First record, and this season, his 73 wins could not compete with Stevens.
That was misery in capital letters.
"Stevens is an outstanding Head Coach, and he deserves this honor. For me, it isn't that important. What I want to do is lead this team to defend its championship."
Cole appeared completely unconcerned.
On game day, the players finished their morning training.
They had learned that Stevens had won Head Coach before practice began, and now they were standing behind the door with bottles of champagne.
Tang Tian casually made up an excuse and led Stevens to the locker room entrance.
The scene felt strangely familiar.
Stevens pushed the door open, and Tang Tian darted aside.
"Champagne!"
Champagne sprayed toward Stevens from every direction.
Stevens was instantly soaked from head to toe.
"Cough, cough!"
Some had sprayed into his mouth as well. He choked, wiped his face, and then saw the players cheering and screaming.
"Head Coach! Head Coach!"
Stevens began laughing as well.
