Background / History
Hoshino arrives at Advanced Nurturing High School by family chauffeur and meets Sakayanagi Arisu, his childhood friend and prospective fiancée, at the school gates. Their reunion immediately becomes a contest over which of them is superior. 1
He enters Class D, where he quickly begins observing classmates as potential sources of information. He recognizes Ayanokoji Kiyotaka’s name and identifies him as the White Room’s “Masterpiece,” having accessed the institution’s records through his authority as an investor from the Hoshino Conglomerate. Hoshino regards Ayanokoji as both a rival and an object of interest. 3 22
Hoshino later reveals that he is the Hoshino Conglomerate’s heir. His family possesses substantial influence over the school; its cruise ship and the uninhabited island used for the special exam both belong to the family. He spent months on the island as a child, giving him detailed familiarity with its terrain and stronghold locations. 22 83 97
