Background / History

Chabashira grew up in a family that owned several tea gardens. Her grandfather taught her tea-roasting and brewing from childhood and intended for her to inherit the family business. Before Chabashira enrolled at Advanced Nurturing, however, her father took control of the gardens and later mortgaged them through poor management. 109

Thirteen years before the current story, Chabashira entered Advanced Nurturing as a Class D student. Through three years of effort, her class came within 73 class points of Class A. During its final special exam, she had an opportunity to secure 100 class points by expelling a student, but hesitated; the class failed to recover and ultimately missed promotion. The student had been someone with whom she had promised to attend Tokyo University after graduation. 58 59

Unable to move past that failure, Chabashira returned to the school as Class D's homeroom teacher, treating the class's promotion as a chance at redemption. Her desire to reach Class A becomes central to her decisions and leaves her vulnerable to Suzuki Tsubame's bargaining. 38 59

Appearance

Chabashira is a mature-looking woman whose appearance has been compared to what Horikita Suzune may look like as an adult. Her usual expression is notably cold and severe, though it softens on rare occasions when Class D succeeds or when she is alone with Suzuki. 6 37 141

  • Frequently maintains an “ice-block” expression in class. 37
  • Has a composed, practiced manner when preparing tea. 108
  • Her assessed parameters are unusually high for a faculty member. 18

Ratings observed by Suzuki Tsubame. 18

Personality

Chabashira projects an aloof, strict, and often intimidating presence. She rarely interferes with Class D's behavior unless it becomes necessary, but she immediately recognizes exceptional potential in students such as Suzuki. After he deduces the school's concealed point system, she supports his decision not to reveal the rules to the entire class. 3 6

Her defining trait is her obsession with Class A. The loss of her own class thirteen years earlier has left her unable to accept failure, and she is willing to compromise her principles or make unequal arrangements to gain an advantage for Class D. 38 59

Away from the classroom, Chabashira is markedly more insecure. She struggles to communicate affection directly, fears Hoshinomiya's interest in Suzuki, and grows increasingly dependent on Suzuki's presence and approval. 77 78 88 141
