Background / History

Kiyona enrolls at Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School in April. On the bus to school, she intervenes in a dispute over an elderly passenger’s seat, then meets Hoshino Kanade after recognizing that he also prefers not to attract attention. Though she considers friendship troublesome, she decides maintaining at least some relationships is necessary to avoid isolation. 1

She and Kanade discover that they are classmates and agree to address each other by their given names. Kiyona skips the opening ceremony with him, choosing instead to buy daily necessities; she considers the decision overly conspicuous but follows him nonetheless. 2 3
