Background / History
Su Muzhi is the daughter of the Xingnan University Vice Principal and a wealthy Shanghai family. Her father married into the family, which is why she bears her mother's surname. Her family owns a villa and can reserve entire hotels and supply private-kitchen staff for a meal. 14 27 73
She was often ill as a child and made frequent hospital visits. Her poor stamina persists into adulthood; after the Purple Gold Mountain hike, she enters a sanatorium, later requiring repeated treatment for a serious heart condition. 44 101 118 299
Her relationship with her mother is strained. Su regards her mother as controlling and uses that disapproval to her own advantage, including arranging Jiang Linyuan's meeting with her. Despite this conflict, the two later communicate more openly about Jiang and her treatment. 44 74 237
Su attended Xingnan University by her own decision. She initially approaches Jiang Linyuan partly to observe his relationship with Shen Wanyu, then becomes his nominal “wingman” while pursuing her own understanding of him. 9 102
Appearance
Su Muzhi is a slender young woman with willow-leaf eyebrows, large expressive eyes, long dark hair, and a notably narrow waist. She carries herself with deliberate confidence, whether in casual clothes, formalwear, or traditional dress. 16 123 178
- Often wears short skirts and fashionable casual outfits. 16 57
- Wore a wine-red shirt with a black ball gown to her family banquet. 123
- Wore a red-and-gold phoenix crown and robe for the Lantern Festival. 171
- Is described as physically frail and has poor endurance despite her outward poise. 101 172
Personality
Su Muzhi is clever, provocative, and highly competitive. She habitually smiles while needling others, enjoys engineering uncomfortable situations, and treats social conflict as entertainment. Her early interactions with Jiang Linyuan are defined by mutual schemes: she agrees to help him approach Shen Wanyu while planning to learn more about him herself. 9
She is intensely self-assured and rarely conceals her sense of superiority. She can be bluntly dismissive of people she finds unimportant, using her family’s influence as an implied threat when challenged. 124 137 Her own assessment of high school is that most classmates either disliked her personality or sought to curry favor because of her family background. 170
Beneath that confidence, Su struggles to recognize and articulate affection. She initially treats people as toys or sources of amusement, including Shen Wanyu, but becomes unsettled by jealousy whenever Jiang Linyuan pursues other women. She eventually acknowledges that this discomfort is connected to her feelings for him. 161 164
Her possessiveness remains a defining trait. Su wants Jiang to be emotionally focused on her and openly asks him to try to fall in love with her, even while accepting that he has complicated relationships with others. 170 192 283 She nevertheless shows loyalty and care for him, supports his efforts to seek treatment for her condition, and values sincerity when it is genuinely offered. 237 285

Trivia
- Su uses “hehe” as a recurring verbal mannerism, especially when teasing, threatening, or concealing her real feelings.
