Background

Xu Yu was the Great Sun Prince of the Sun Moon Empire and the head of the Great Sun Prince Mansion. His branch’s prestige, military strength, Title Douluo retainers, and Soul Tool support increasingly overshadowed the imperial family, drawing the suspicion of his elder brother, Emperor Xu Huang. 1 3

When Xu Zhao proposed abandoning the internal power struggle and crossing the sea to establish themselves on the Douluo Continent, Xu Yu initially rejected any suggestion of surrendering his power. He ultimately accepted the plan, ordering the Mansion into full combat readiness and declaring their intent to “conquer a new world.” 3

Xu Yu led the Mansion’s Soul Guidance fleet across the sea. At departure, Xu Huang publicly saw him off and promised that the Sun Moon Empire would remain a refuge should the expedition fail. 4

After securing Linhai City, Xu Yu founded the Great Ming Empire, named at Xu Zhao’s suggestion for the union of sun and moon. He installed Kong Yan as Empress, named Xu Zhao Crown Prince and regent, and established the Elder Hall as a power answering solely to the Emperor and Crown Prince. 33

During negotiations with Martial Soul Hall, Xu Yu used the superior cultivation system of the Sun Moon Continent to intimidate Golden Crocodile Douluo. Acting on Xu Zhao’s instructions, he also portrayed the Great Sun Prince Mansion as refugees whose homeland had been destroyed, framing their expansion as a struggle for survival. 26 27 28

During Great Ming’s war with Star Luo and Martial Soul Hall, Xu Yu fought on the northern front with Kong Yan against Golden Crocodile Douluo. His son later intervened after sensing that the pair had been drawn into battle against a peak opponent. 138 139

Following the destruction of Slaughter City, Xu Zhao presented Xu Yu with Tang Chen’s God-Given Torso Bone, stating that it could help him secure the level 99 bottleneck and strengthen Great Ming while Xu Zhao was absent. 154

As ruler of Great Ming, Xu Yu is decisive and ambitious. He is willing to employ intimidation, political theater, and overwhelming force to secure his family’s position, yet remains personally protective of Xu Zhao and concerned for his safety. 28 33 154

He also has a competitive, playful side around his family. When the Evil Orca King appeared during the voyage, he insisted on taking the kill himself so that he would not appear useless before Kong Yan. 12
