Life as a Hollow

Nir spent centuries in Hueco Mundo as a Vasto Lorde-class Menos Grande. Although capable of defending herself, she disliked needless conflict and had grown tired of the loneliness and predation that defined Hollow life. She survived alone, preparing simple food rather than consuming souls when possible. 162 163

She encountered Lin Feng, Loly, and Menoly while investigating the aftermath of their battle with Nnoitra. Intrigued by Loly and Menoly's missing Hollow masks, Nir challenged Lin Feng's explanation that a Hollow's mask represented its lost heart. Lin Feng used the Hogyoku's light on her mask, creating a crack and briefly relieving the emptiness she had long endured. Though initially skeptical, Nir followed the group after they departed. 162

Joining Lin Feng

Drawn by the smell of Lin Feng's food, Nir approached the group's camp after following them for two days. There, she introduced herself as Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck, saying Lin Feng could call her Nir. The meal and the group's warmth gave her a sense of companionship she had never experienced while living alone. 163

After hearing Lin Feng's account of Hueco Mundo's origins and his stated intention to change its brutal order, Nir chose to follow him. She consumed his essence blood, which broke her mask, transformed her into an Arrancar, and awakened a far stronger form. She immediately pledged to protect him on the journey toward Las Noches. 163

Las Noches

Nir traveled with Lin Feng, Loly, and Menoly from the Forest of Menos toward Las Noches. She initially served as the group's security, using her overwhelming spiritual pressure to drive nearby Menos Grande away without fighting. She also became fascinated by the villa's modern appliances and television, adapting quickly to the domestic life Lin Feng offered. 163 164

When a Vasto Lorde-led force surrounded the villa, Nir fought to defend Lin Feng and the others. She later assisted in rescuing Tier Harribel and her companions from Szayelaporro, tending to Harribel's injuries after the battle. 165 166

Nir joined Tier Harribel in confronting Barragan at Las Noches. Their attacks could not overcome Barragan's corrosion ability, but Nir's speed and Lanza Verde forced him to defend himself before Lin Feng took over the battle. 169
