Background / History

Hara was raised in the White House, where his emotional expressiveness set him apart from most of his peers. He befriended Yuki and hid her poor condition from the instructors, but she was ultimately eliminated. By the end of his generation, only Hara and Ayanokoji Kiyotaka remained; their sparring matches routinely ended in draws. After learning that Ayanokoji was the son of Ayanokoji Atsuomi and had received different treatment, Hara deliberately lost their final spar and was eliminated. 16

After leaving, he learned that the Uesugi family had gone bankrupt and that its person in charge had committed suicide. Poverty became a defining influence on him: he struggled to afford food, took part-time jobs, and developed an enduring fixation on money and private points. 5 16 61
