Time passed quickly, and in the blink of an eye, it was Friday—the day for the weekend, and the day students looked forward to the most.
They had enough points to spend, so the weekend felt particularly precious.
At 3:30 PM, inside Class 1-B.
Kanzaki Ryuji slung his shoulder bag over his arm, exchanged a nod with Horikita Etsuka in the back, and walked out of the classroom.
Ichinose also walked over and waved her hand, "I'll be heading off then."
Horikita Etsuka nodded, "Go ahead."
After everyone had left, he stretched his back and looked at Himeno Yuki, who was engrossed in a novel nearby, "Himeno, aren't you leaving yet?"
Himeno Yuki shook her head, "You go ahead first; I want to finish this chapter."
"Alright." Horikita Etsuka didn't say anything more, slung his bag over his shoulder, and walked out of the classroom.
Over the past week, he had basically gotten to know everyone in the class, and had formed initial friendships with Ichinose, Himeno Yuki, Kanzaki Ryuji, Shiranami Chihiro, and others.
Ichinose is relatively trustworthy, though she is a bit too kind.
Horikita Etsuka thought to himself as he walked forward.
"Hey, Horikita, want to come play soccer?" A hand landed on Horikita Etsuka's shoulder. He turned around to see:
"Oh, it's Shibata."
Shibata Kaede, a boy who loved playing soccer, was just as popular with the girls in class as Horikita Etsuka, thanks to his excellent looks and outstanding athletic ability.
However, in terms of popularity among the boys, he was just average, whereas Horikita Etsuka's high emotional intelligence made him the second most popular person in class, right after Ichinose.
As for why he was only second to Ichinose, it was because she could be called a human succubus; there was a unique aura about her that even made Horikita Etsuka want to get closer, let alone anyone else.
"Well? Are you coming or not?" Shibata said with a smile.
"Sure, why not?" Horikita Etsuka had finished everything he needed to arrange, and a little relaxation wouldn't hurt.
They arrived at the field together.
After a brief introduction from Shibata, Horikita Etsuka quickly hit it off with the others, and they soon split into teams to start the match.
Figures ran wildly across the field.
Outside the field, a group of young, pretty girls gathered, chattering away.
"Wow, it's Shibata Kaede! He's so handsome." One girl said, holding a water bottle.
"Hmm? By the way, have you guys noticed the boy next to Shibata Kaede? He looks so good when he smiles."
"Oh! Really! I noticed him too! Should we go ask for his contact info later? Wuwu~ I'm a bit too shy."
Even with her headphones on, Himeno Yuki heard the girls' discussion. She took off one earphone, looked up, and saw Horikita Etsuka sweating profusely on the field.
"Is Horikita this good at soccer?"
Himeno Yuki had never seen Horikita Etsuka play before, so she paused for a moment and sat down on a nearby bench, where the trees provided just enough shade from the sun.
Nakanishi Jiro was walking along the campus path, fiddling with the camera in his hands, when he unconsciously spotted Himeno Yuki sitting on the bench.
He looked curiously in the direction of her gaze and only saw Horikita Etsuka's figure constantly weaving through the field.
"Damn, comparing people just makes you want to die." Nakanishi Jiro shook his head and continued walking while fiddling with his camera.
The first match ended quickly. Horikita Etsuka happened to see Himeno Yuki sitting on the bench outside the field. He wiped the sweat from his forehead and said to Shibata:
"You guys can start the next one without me, I'm going to go rest for a bit."
Shibata gave him an 'OK' sign.
Horikita Etsuka walked up to Himeno Yuki and was just about to greet her when she handed him a room-temperature bottle of water from her bag:
"Drink this after your intense exercise."
Horikita Etsuka looked at Himeno Yuki's calm face, gave a sheepish smile, took the water, and chugged it down.
Droplets of water slid down his throat, and Himeno Yuki's gaze followed them down.
Sweat had soaked his thin white shirt, faintly revealing the toned muscles underneath—a standard lean physique that looked quite perfect.
Horikita Etsuka noticed her gaze, tightened the bottle cap, and teased, "Himeno, do you like what you see?"
Although Himeno Yuki was very good at controlling her emotions, such a direct comment still made her face flush slightly.
If you like this book, remember to add it to your bookshelf so you don't lose it next time.
"W-what are you talking about?" She hurriedly looked away.
Watching the girl's shy appearance, Horikita Etsuka felt more and more that he had come to the right school. He thanked his older sister for getting him assigned to Class D!
As if on cue, a familiar yet distant voice rang out.
"Etsuka? You can play soccer too?"
Horikita Suzune stood in the distance, watching Horikita Etsuka calmly, followed by the expressionless Kiyotaka Ayanokoji, who raised a hand in greeting.
"Geez, big sis, there's a lot you don't know about me," Horikita Etsuka said confidently, hands on his hips. "Who isn't a hidden gem these days?"
Horikita Suzune didn't respond to Horikita Etsuka directly; she just took another look at Himeno Yuki sitting on the bench before replying, "I have something to discuss with you."
Himeno Yuki put her headphones back on and said to Horikita Etsuka, "I'll be heading off now."
"Yeah, sure, bye." Horikita Etsuka waved his hand with a smile.
Horikita Suzune watched Himeno Yuki's retreating figure, then turned her head to look at Kiyotaka Ayanokoji: "Ayanokoji, don't you feel awkward staying here?"
Ayanokoji blinked, his expression blank: "Well, I suppose I'm just a bit slow on the uptake."
With that, he took a step and walked away.
Horikita Suzune pressed her hand down on her skirt, her long, snow-white legs crossed as she sat on the bench, and she patted the spot beside her:
"Etsuka, sit."
Why does she sound like she's training a dog? Horikita Etsuka thought to himself as he sat down.
Horikita Suzune was left speechless seeing Horikita Etsuka sitting at the very far end; was she really that terrifying?
"Etsuka, sit a bit closer."
Horikita Etsuka scooted over three or four centimeters.
Horikita Suzune's face darkened: "3..."
The next second, Horikita Etsuka immediately moved over, leaving only a fist's width of space between them.
Only then did Horikita Suzune nod in satisfaction.
She then said with a serious expression: "Sudo is being harassed by people from Class C again."
"Did he throw a punch?" Horikita Etsuka asked curiously.
Horikita Suzune shook her head:
"No. Fortunately, thanks to your reminder that day, I went back and told the others in class. Although Sudo Ken didn't resort to violence, he did lose his temper with the rest of us when he got back to the classroom."
Horikita Suzune waited for Etsuka to speak, but the other party remained silent for a long time, and the two fell into a quiet lull.
"Etsuka, do you have any reservations?" In the end, it was Horikita Suzune who broke the silence.
Horikita Etsuka rested his chin on his hand and said:
"No, actually, I already have a plan, and it's already being put into motion."
"Hm? What kind of plan?"
Horikita Etsuka didn't answer directly. He looked at Horikita Suzune and said: "Sis, is there anyone you trust?"
"Someone I trust..."
Horikita Suzune's mind flashed with the face of Ayanokoji. It wasn't that she trusted him, but he was the only one she had interacted with over the past week.
Horikita Suzune fell silent; it seemed she didn't have anyone...
Seeing the expression on her face, Horikita Etsuka knew the answer, so he sighed and said:
"Sis, you'll be fine on your own."
Horikita Suzune breathed a sigh of relief: "Relying solely on one's own strength is the most reliable way."
Horikita Etsuka was speechless.
Ah~ she really is the "Reliable Sister" archetype!
