Just as Dark was about to summon [Angemon], his intuition suddenly warned him. He swiftly turned his head and saw that, at some point, a figure had silently appeared atop a mountain peak some distance away.
He called it a "figure" only because it was vaguely humanoid.
"A demon?"
Dark narrowed his eyes, and his vision abruptly sharpened. He saw two horns protruding from the figure's head, giving it a demonic appearance.
He was already deep within Black Soil, in the heart of Demon Race territory. Encountering one or two demons here should not have been unusual. But a demon openly appearing before humans like this was indeed rare.
Come to think of it, however, he had seen several demons openly appearing before humans just a few months ago—though that had been on Mount of Gods.
Before that had been during the first World Cup, though that could hardly be called "open."
The other occasion that could be considered "open" had been several years ago, when the Demon King led the Demon Race in an invasion of Free City.
Though that Demon King had clearly not been quite right in the head.

Dark shifted his feet slightly. The Funeral Light Hero and Sublime Light Emperor naturally adjusted their positions, shielding him behind them.
Almost simultaneously, the demon standing atop the mountain vanished. In the blink of an eye, it appeared not far in front of Dark.
