"Wait a moment, you two, wait a moment." An anxious shout rang out, and two middle-aged men came jogging over.
"Hmm? What is it?"
Garen asked with a frown.
In the Magical Beast Mountain Range, strangers generally wouldn't provoke one another without cause; these two were acting a bit strange.
"Brothers, this is the central region of the Magical Beast Mountain Range. It's extremely dangerous. It would be safer if the four of us traveled together."
One of them spoke to Garen and his companion, glancing nervously at their surroundings as he talked.
Garen suddenly remembered; could it be that they were about to encounter Heilu?
It seems these two aren't up to any good; they want to shift the disaster onto us.
However, Heilu posed no threat to Garen, so he didn't pay them any mind.
"If you two want to follow, then follow, but don't disturb our training, or I will kill you both on the spot."
After Garen finished speaking, he continued walking at a leisurely pace.
He hadn't walked more than a few steps when his Map Function displayed a red dot approaching at Extreme Speed.
It came so fast? This speed is even faster than a level nine Golden Sun Eagle. As expected of a Black-Striped Cloud Leopard.
"Ah..."
A miserable scream rang out.
The two men behind them had become one, and a pool of blood remained on the ground.
"Ah... no... don't... I don't want to die yet."
The other man suddenly began to shriek in terror.
"Swish."
Garen unleashed a soul attack, granting him an instant release.
The man collapsed limply to the ground.
"Garen, did you see that black shadow clearly just now? The speed was too fast. Could it be a Saint Realm magical beast?"
Linley didn't care at all about the two dead men; he had seen too many corpses in the Magical Beast Mountain Range. He was simply interested in that black shadow.
With Garen and Xiao Pa by his side, he wasn't worried about any Saint Realm magical beast, so he remained quite relaxed.
"It's not a Saint Realm magical beast, it's a peak level nine Black-Striped Cloud Leopard. Its speed and attack power are definitely at the peak of level nine. How about it, want to use it for practice?"
"Good, I've just hit a bottleneck in my comprehension of Momentum recently. Perhaps I can break through with some real combat."
The two chatted casually, as if a peak level nine magical beast was not worth mentioning in their presence.
Garen waved his hand, and the corpse of the man behind him turned into dust, drifting away with the wind.
"It's noon already, and I'm hungry. Let's roast that Black-Line Leopard you killed earlier."
And so, the two of them began roasting leopard meat in the wild, as if they were on a self-driving tour.
By the time they finished eating the leopard meat, Heilu still hadn't appeared.
"Garen, is it possible that the aura from you and Xiao Pa is too strong, and the Black-Striped Cloud Leopard sensed it?"
"Impossible. For the past two years, I've been in the Magical Beast Mountain Range comprehending the laws of the Wind Element. I've basically reached the realm of merging with the world, and in my human form, I'm only at level nine. What could it possibly sense? Xiao Pa has completely stabilized his Saint Realm cultivation now; as long as he doesn't actively release his aura, even those in the Saint Realm would find it hard to detect him."
"Oh, then perhaps the Black-Striped Cloud Leopard is full and won't attack us so soon. Or maybe it's wary of us waiting here for it, and doesn't dare to attack easily," Linley analyzed.
"Fine then, let's not wait. Let's keep moving."
The two set off again, strolling through the center of the mountain range.
A day later, as the morning sun rose, Garen sat atop a giant boulder. Having just finished deducing the laws of the Wind Element for a while, he opened his eyes and saw Linley practicing with the Violetblood Soft Sword not far away.
"Swish, swish, swish..."
Under the sunlight, his figure was elegant and natural, the soft sword in his hand creating layers of shadows, moving sometimes slowly and sometimes quickly.
Watching this scene, Garen suddenly felt a spark of inspiration.
Could it be like this?
Drawing the God-Slaying Blade, he began to swing it casually atop the boulder as well.
At first, it was just random swinging, but after a while.
A blade shadow flashed, instantly turning into dozens of blades, layered one upon another. It looked like he was swinging very slowly, yet in an instant, there were dozens of blade shadows. It looked very fast, yet the blade itself seemed clearly visible, as if slowed down a thousand times, giving off a strange sensation.
Just as he entered this profound state.
"Boom."
Not far away, a black leopard and a giant mouse collided with a palm strike.
The Black-Striped Cloud Leopard, which had intended to ambush Linley, was forced to a halt by Bebe.
"This Heilu, he really knows how to pick his moments. I had just gained a bit of insight, and you had to pop out right then."
Garen couldn't help but think to himself.
In the blink of an eye, Linley must have sent a telepathic message to Bebe, as Bebe retreated to the side. Linley had already transformed into his Dragonblood Warrior state, switching his weapon to the heavy sword No Edge, and was currently locked in a standoff with the Black-Striped Cloud Leopard.
Seeing this scene, Garen took a small stool out of his Space Ring, retrieved some snacks he had bought back in Hess City, and waited for the live show to begin.
"Linley, beat him hard! Beat him so badly even his own mother wouldn't recognize him!"
Garen's insights had been interrupted, so he took up the role of a cheerleader on the sidelines.
Immediately, both the man and the beast looked toward him, feeling a sense of being offended.
Following that, a "dragon-leopard duel" began. The man and the beast were evenly matched, trading blows back and forth with very similar strength.
At the final moment, Linley utilized his abilities as an eighth-rank magus, gaining the upper hand over the Black-Striped Cloud Leopard and completely subduing it.
Linley, having taken a liking to the leopard's appearance and strength, decided to take it as his second magical beast.
With that, they set off again. The two-man team added another member, becoming a group of two men and three magical beasts.
Strolling through the forest, Garen checked his system panel. After seeing Linley use the Violetblood Soft Sword earlier, he had actually gained entry-level insights into the Mysteries of Speed and the Mysteries of Slowness.
Wind Element
Laws of Profound Truths: "Profound Truth of Speed" (380,000/10,000,000 EXP)
Laws of Profound Truths: "Mysteries of Slowness" (380,000/10,000,000 EXP)
"I was interrupted just as I entered the door; both profound truths only gained 380,000 EXP. That's so much less than the previous two times I had a breakthrough."
Garen immediately cast an unfriendly gaze toward the Black-Striped Cloud Leopard beneath Linley.
Heilu sensed Garen's gaze and actually bared his teeth at him with great disdain.
Could he endure this? Not with his short temper.
"Linley, my hands are suddenly itching. Let Heilu spar with me."
"This? That doesn't seem appropriate!"
Looking at Heilu, who had just recovered from his injuries, Linley couldn't bear it. He knew Garen's strength; although Heilu was very strong, if he went up against Garen, he would surely be absolutely crushed.
"Don't worry, I won't transform, and I won't use a weapon. I haven't exercised in a long time; I just want to stretch my limbs."
"Alright then."
Linley had no choice but to agree helplessly. He cast a pitying look at Heilu and could only silently pray for him, hoping he wouldn't be beaten too badly.
Heilu also understood their conversation, and killing intent immediately surged in his eyes.
I've long been annoyed by this human. This human actually dares to look down on me, a Black-Striped Cloud Leopard. For my master's sake, I won't kill him, but I must teach him a lesson.
The intelligence of a ninth-rank magical beast is similar to that of a human, though they cannot speak. When he fought Linley earlier, he had seen Garen sitting on a small stool watching the show and had been annoyed by him. Now that he had a chance to teach him a lesson, it was exactly what he wanted. However, knowing that his master Linley and Garen must have a very good relationship, he knew he couldn't kill him, but taking the opportunity to give him a sound beating shouldn't be a problem.
I can't beat my master, but I can't even beat you?
Heilu thought to himself.
Both the man and the beast harbored their own secret agendas.
