Now It Was Time to Cook

Seeing the giant wolf lying on the ground, groaning in pain, Xue Xi—cheat-backed and bold—walked right up to it, intending to pet its enormous head.

The Silver Moon Fierce Wolf narrowed its eyes, seized its chance, and opened its jaws to bite down on Xue Xi's head again. She neither dodged nor flinched, letting its cavernous jaws clamp down on her head.

A crisp crack rang out. Don't get the wrong idea—Xue Xi's head hadn't broken. It was the Silver Moon Fierce Wolf's four pearly white teeth that had snapped. Xue Xi pressed her lips together in a smile, then slapped the wolf's mouth right on top of its head again.

The Silver Moon Fierce Wolf, utterly resigned to its fate, clamped both front paws over its mouth, afraid the girl might give it another hard smack. It had learned its lesson: today, it had met its match. With its paws over its head, it buried its face in the ground and presented its big rump to Xue Xi, giving up completely.

Xue Xi couldn't help laughing. What kind of Silver Moon Fierce Wolf was this? Compared to the husky she'd raised in her previous life, it was only bigger. Its personality was exactly the same.

She crouched and slowly stroked the fur along its back. And she had to admit, its fur wasn't stiff and prickly like other wolves'—it was as soft as a husky's coat.

Ignoring the tremors coursing through its massive body, Xue Xi petted it like a dog and said, "Little Wolf, how about you stick with me from now on? I'll feed you and put a roof over your head, and you won't have to worry about humans hunting you. I know you're intelligent, so nod if you agree. If you don't, then I'll leave tonight's roast meat up to you."

The Silver Moon Fierce Wolf nodded furiously with its limited intelligence. The beastfolk would never be slaves—but, then again, better to live on miserably than die.

Xue Xi patted the dog's head, which was bigger than her own. "All right, from now on, I'll call you Little Wolf. You're the first mighty warrior under my command, Xue Xi. Once the ingredients arrive today, I'll make you something delicious."

The Silver Moon Fierce Wolf indicated that anything was fine, as long as it wasn't made into something delicious itself.

Seeing how listless Little Wolf looked, Xue Xi furrowed her brows. Had she really hit it that hard? She pulled out her phone and saw that it still had 73 percent battery, then sent Xu Xin a message asking for help: "Sis Xu Xin, I picked up an injured puppy today. Could you prepare some medicine for it? Your little sister will repay you someday."

She didn't get a reply for a long while. Xu Xin was probably still in class. Xue Xi figured that Little Wolf was in the way of her business, so she simply dragged it through her mind and hoisted it over to the large warehouse out back.

The three-meter-tall giant wolf rose into the air, panicking. Fortunately, Xue Xi reassured it, and she managed to settle it in a corner of the warehouse without a hitch. "Stay here for now. I'll go find some medicine for you. Be good."

Little Wolf nodded weakly and continued licking its wounds with saliva from its tongue. Seeing this, Xue Xi praised it, "Good boy!" Then she returned to the dining room and started playing on her phone. Now all she had to do was wait for the two deliveries.

It was nearly noon when Xu Xin finally replied: "Sorry, sorry! I was busy in the lab all morning, and my phone was in a locker, so I didn't see it. As for the medicine you mentioned, I prepared it ages ago. It should be arriving soon, judging by the timing. I'm still busy, so we'll talk when I have time."

Xue Xi replied, "Okay, thanks, Sis Xu Xin!" She hadn't expected Xu Xin to work so hard, even though she was the heiress of a prominent family. She was beautiful and impressive.

Before long, the roar of motorcycles sounded outside. Xue Xi's face lit up. They were here!

She rushed out of the dining room and saw two large pickup trucks speeding along the abandoned road. They skidded to a stop right in front of the restaurant.

Luo Feng and Gao Feng jumped out one after the other and slammed their doors shut. Gao Feng pointed to the two truck beds, packed full of ingredients, and laughed. "Hahaha, Shopkeeper Xue Xi, mission accomplished! How's that for fast?"

Xue Xi happily praised them both, then walked around the trucks to inspect their loads. They had everything: rice, flour, cooking oil, fruits, vegetables, cookware, and seasonings—and plenty of it. It looked like enough to last her several months.

Clapping her hands, she invited the two men with satisfaction. "Excellent, you've got everything. Don't rush off just yet. I'll make the two of you a meal with some noodles to show my appreciation."

Luo Feng and Gao Feng exchanged a glance, then agreed in unison. To be honest, they were eager to see what kind of cooking skills this little girl, whose strength ran deep, had brought to the Wilderness Zone to open a restaurant.

The two men helped unload the goods and stack them in the warehouse out back, and Xue Xi readily agreed.

With one hand supporting a large barrel of purified water, Xue Xi chatted and laughed with the two men as they walked into the warehouse. They stacked the goods in their designated storage areas and were about to leave when Luo Feng frowned. Why did he smell such a strong stench of blood?

His Spiritual Force followed the source of the smell. He was startled, immediately drew the Blood Shadow Battle Blade from his back, and assumed a fighting stance.

Gao Feng had no idea what was going on, but trusting Luo Feng, he immediately gripped a hammer in each hand, ready to fight.

Seeing how tense the two men were, Xue Xi guessed that Luo Feng had discovered Little Wolf. She hurried to explain everything, preventing her ingredients from getting damaged.
