Background

Lei Long is one of the three coaches responsible for the daily operation of Whale-Kill Boxing Hall’s branch. Each branch coach is a formal disciple who has reached at least the third level of Soul Whale Fist; Lei Long is considered the strongest among them. He has been a formal disciple for at least six or seven years and is on the verge of advancing from the peak of the fourth level to the fifth. 17 39

He initially taught Soul Whale Fist’s introductory course, but Head Coach Lin Fei publicly reprimanded and physically punished him for incorrectly presenting the art’s realms as a simple five-level sequence. Lin Fei nevertheless described him as “not a bad person” and made him compensate the trainees with medicinal-bath sessions deducted from his salary. 18 19

After Lin Fei departed for the main hall, Lei Long became the person in charge of the branch gym. 30

Lei Long serves as Lin Ye’s first boxing-hall instructor. He explains that fist techniques have five levels, introduces the conditions for becoming an official disciple, and personally leads the class through all eighteen forms of Soul Whale Fist. 11

Lin Fei’s Correction

Lin Fei arrives to correct Lei Long’s flawed explanation of the realms, beats him in front of the trainees, and orders the cost of their medicinal-bath compensation deducted from his pay. 18 19

Lei Long remains involved in Lin Ye’s advancement by preparing his medicinal bath, monitoring his recovery, and protecting him unsuccessfully from Lin Fei’s intense post-bath massage. 26
