Background / History

Lin Mu was originally a man from Earth. After rescuing a drowning child from a river, he was struck by a meteor and reborn with his memories intact as the child Linmu Fujimiya at Sunshine Home, an orphanage in Japan. 1

While at the orphanage, he discovered that he possessed abilities comparable to Saiki Kusuo’s full psychic-power set. He secretly tested telepathy, psychokinesis, teleportation, clairvoyance, precognition, and matter manipulation, then used these powers to alter documents and influence key people to secure admission to Advanced Nurturing High School. 1

Rather than pursuing power or status, Lin Mu adopts a personal goal of living comfortably with as little effort as possible. He sees the academy’s closed-management system as an ideal place to remain undisturbed, eat sweets, draw privately, and avoid trouble. 1 5

Appearance

Lin Mu is a notably handsome, tall student whose detached manner and habitual lollipop make him conspicuous despite his preference for staying unnoticed. 3 8

  • Short white hair. 3
  • Cold, refined facial features and lazy, half-lidded eyes. 3
  • Tall, straight build; stated height of 178 cm. 3
  • Usually carries or eats lollipops. 1 8
  • Has lean, defined musculature rather than a bulky build. 128
  • Wears the academy’s dark red blazer, white shirt, and brown trousers while on campus. 1

Personality

Lin Mu is sarcastic, laid-back, and intensely averse to unnecessary effort. His central priority is “slacking off”: he prefers comfort, desserts, quiet leisure, and solutions that prevent future work. Even when he learns the academy’s hidden rules ahead of everyone else, he feels no urgency to become Class D’s savior. 1 10 28

He is generally detached from school politics and class competition, but not cruel. He quietly intervenes when a situation crosses a line, such as saving Kanji Ike from being framed or arranging food and water for his classmates during the Uninhabited Island exam. 98 106 120

Lin Mu dislikes prying into the private thoughts of people he considers friends. Although he can read minds, he deliberately avoids using telepathy on Kushida and does not immediately investigate her secrets. 28 133 152

His calm exterior also masks a mischievous streak. He enjoys provoking people—particularly Kamuro Masumi—and uses his “fortune-teller” persona to control tense social situations while appearing completely unbothered. 72 137 146

Abilities & Skills

Psychic Powers

Lin Mu possesses a suite of psychic abilities modeled after Saiki Kusuo’s powers. Their use consumes internal energy, which he rapidly restores through sugar. 1

  • Candy and lollipops are his usual means of maintaining energy reserves. 1
  • He avoids excessive or conspicuous use of his abilities to preserve his low-profile lifestyle. 1 2
  • Large-scale memory alteration is impractical due to high energy consumption and unpredictable side effects. 81

Telepathy

Lin Mu can read thoughts and access memory fragments, allowing him to uncover information without the subject’s awareness. 1 10

  • Read Sae Chabashira’s knowledge of the academy’s true rules and Class D’s expected fate. 10
  • Used memories and surface thoughts to tailor fortune-telling readings, including Ichinose Honami’s. 16
  • Identified the VIPs in the grade’s mixed-class groups. 138
  • Usually refrains from reading the minds of classmates unless necessary. 4 152

Precognition

Lin Mu sees fragments of possible futures, which form the foundation of his accurate divinations. 12 17

  • Predicts likely outcomes so long as he does not forcefully intervene and alter the course of events. 12
  • Used future fragments to advise Sato Yuta about a team competition. 17 18
  • Warned Ichinose about her Student Council path and anticipated the arrival of someone able to help her. 16 26
  • Identified VIP distributions during the shipboard special exam. 137 138

Psychokinesis

Lin Mu manipulates objects remotely with precise, invisible force. 1

  • Assembles and packs his fortune-telling stall without visibly touching its components. 15 19
  • Controls Tarot-card draws to support his readings. 16 18
  • Creates small supernatural effects, such as self-shuffling cards and a glowing crystal ball, to reinforce his diviner persona. 19 23
  • Draws clean water from a stream and gathers food during the Uninhabited Island exam. 98 113
  • Secretly returned stolen underwear to Mio Ibuki’s backpack, preventing Kanji Ike from being framed. 120

Clairvoyance and Regression

Lin Mu can observe distant events and revisit past events through his powers. 10 120

  • Uses clairvoyance and precognition to handle written tests and special situations. 10
  • Regressed to witness Mio Ibuki steal Kei Karuizawa’s underwear and frame Kanji Ike. 120
  • Observed evidence concerning Kushida while still refusing to invade her mind directly. 133

Matter Manipulation

Lin Mu can create or manipulate matter, though he generally avoids using it openly because unexplained creations would attract attention. 1 14

  • Conjured figs and starfruit as food on the Uninhabited Island. 98
  • Produced a new Tarot deck seemingly from thin air to intimidate Yahiko Totsuka and engage Kohei Katsuragi. 108

Physical Ability

Lin Mu possesses stamina and physical capability beyond that of an ordinary student. 97 117

  • Quickly crossed the island forest without exhaustion after locating the cornfield. 117
  • Scouts ahead alone while Kushida stays behind with the exhausted Sakura. 97
  • Remains composed in confrontations because ordinary threats hold little danger for him. 97 115

Equipment / Items

  • Lollipops and candy — restores psychic energy; Lin Mu habitually keeps them on hand. 1
  • Tarot cards — used as props and as controlled tools for his divinations. 16 18
  • Crystal ball — used for scrying performances and maintaining his mysterious image. 19 20
  • Fortune-telling stall — includes a folding tent, table, stools, banner, and pricing board. 15 20
  • Private points — earned through divination; he makes nearly one million points in his first day of business and later claims to have accumulated twenty million. 19 34

Fortune-Teller Persona

Lin Mu establishes a paid divination stall during the club-recruitment period, initially investing 60,000 private points in props. His genuine precognition and subtle psychic theatrics make the readings unusually convincing. 12 15 19

  • Charges 100,000 points for Tarot divination and 150,000 for crystal-ball scrying. 20
  • Earns nearly one million points in less than half a day during his first major session. 19
  • Uses scarcity and irregular operating hours to preserve the “Divination Immortal” reputation. 20 24
  • Treats the business as a means of securing a comfortable, low-effort life rather than pursuing influence. 12 20

Relationships

  • Kikyo Kushida — Lin Mu’s first friend at the academy. They regularly eat lunch and spend time together; he is concerned when she lends points recklessly, but later becomes wary after discovering signs of her hidden side. 36 56 133 152
  • Airi Sakura — A close companion who increasingly relies on Lin Mu for reassurance and protection. He includes her in scouting, provides food, and supports her confidence during the island exam. 81 97 98 113
  • Ichinose Honami — His first fortune-telling customer and a recurring recipient of his advice. Lin Mu gives her blunt guidance about the Student Council and later buys her birthday hand cream. 15 24 26 85
  • Hiyori Shiina — A quiet library companion with whom Lin Mu shares a comfortable friendship and discussions about school events. 73 82
  • Kamuro Masumi — A frequent target of Lin Mu’s teasing. He once helps her escape pursuers and later gives her food after provoking her over Sakayanagi. 14 72
  • Sakayanagi Arisu — A curious and probing Class A student who recognizes that Lin Mu’s fortune-telling conceals genuine ability. Their exchanges are composed but adversarial. 21 34 82
  • Kiyotaka Ayanokoji — Lin Mu sees through Ayanokoji’s hidden role in Class D’s Uninhabited Island strategy, but does not expose him. 132
  • Yosuke Hirata — A cooperative Class D ally who accepts Lin Mu’s practical suggestions concerning water supplies and the corn harvest. 106 117
  • Kohei Katsuragi — A Class A counterpart who treats Lin Mu cautiously; the two maintain a restrained, strategic rivalry during the island exam. 99 108 113
