Background / History

Shrek has existed for over ten thousand years. Its entrance displays statues of its three recognized founders—Flender, Yu Xiaogang, and Liu Erlong—followed by statues of the first-generation Shrek Seven Devils. The academy’s early reputation was built around Flender’s principle of teaching “monsters” rather than ordinary students. 3 133 138

The academy occupies Shrek City’s eastern side. While it publicly claims to have no direct connection to Shrek City, the city is effectively autonomous: no nation claims jurisdiction over it, and its tax revenue is directed to the academy. 3 5 110 160

Huo Yuhao enrolled through Tang Ya’s Tang Sect recommendation, bypassing the standard entrance assessment. From the start, he treated Shrek as a place for early growth rather than an institution deserving unconditional loyalty. 3

• Martial Soul Department — Handles conventional Soul Master education, practical assessments, and combat-oriented cultivation. Yan Shaozhe serves as its dean. 107 110

Inner Academy and Shrek Surveillance Group

Xuan Zi reveals that the Inner Academy is also the base of the Shrek Surveillance Group, an organization tasked with monitoring and eliminating Evil Soul Masters across the continent. Inner Academy disciples must complete thirty monitoring tasks before they may graduate. 138

The academy presents this work as a responsibility to protect continental peace and stability. However, Huo Yuhao views the compulsory task quota and loyalty-based training as a means of binding talented disciples to Shrek’s interests. 138

Shrek Seven Devils

Every five years, Shrek selects a new generation of Shrek Seven Devils to represent the academy in the All-Continent Advanced Soul Master Academy Soul Fighting Tournament. The title honors the first-generation Seven Devils, whose achievements established Shrek’s reputation. 133

Huo Yuhao’s reserve team was brought into the tournament after the regular team was severely injured during a clash with Evil Soul Masters. The reserve members were expected to compete against weaker opponents, gain experience, and conceal the regular team’s abilities. 135 145

Following their tournament victory, Huo Yuhao and his teammates received three Spirit Bones, support in acquiring Spirit Rings for their next two limit years, Sea God Island training, and the lifelong title of Shrek Seven Devils. 283 289
