The next second!
Yabojin, who had originally been facing Yake Entu, suddenly turned and lunged toward Qian Yun behind him—or more accurately, he charged at Hu Liena, who was standing beside him.
Relying on the enhancement of his Martial Soul and his tall, sturdy frame, he closed the distance to Hu Liena in less than half a breath, moving almost like a teleportation. As his hair whipped through the air, only a desperate and ferocious face was visible.
"Damn it!" Yake Entu cursed angrily. He exerted force through his feet, and his outstretched arm thickened in the blink of an eye, though the rest of his body remained unchanged.
This was his trump card: Martial Soul Semi-Possession! This technique allowed him to utilize a portion of his Martial Soul's power in emergencies without needing to summon the full manifestation.
However, he had clearly underestimated Yabojin's resolve. After Yake Entu grabbed his wrist, Yabojin's momentum did not falter; instead, he struggled violently. A crisp cracking sound echoed as his wrist was twisted into a mangled shape.
Hearing the sound, Yake Entu felt a jolt of alarm, but he had no time to worry about that now. He was struggling to restrain Yabojin, and since he was currently in the state of Martial Soul Semi-Possession, his strength and reaction speed were no match for a full Martial Soul Possession.
Everything happened so suddenly that most people present had not even reacted. Hu Liena only felt Qian Yun pull her, and in an instant, Yabojin was already upon them.
This momentary shift left her with no time to react. Fortunately, Qian Yun's warning had given her and the blonde man an extra step of distance, and that single step was enough for Qian Yun to stand in front of her.
It was too late to summon a Martial Soul now, and condensing elements took time. The only thing Qian Yun, standing before Hu Liena, could do was...
"Block--!"
There was no sound of physical collision. After a flash of golden light, Yabojin was knocked backward as if a trapped beast had slammed into an iron gate, his body sent flying the moment he touched Qian Yun.
"Wow."
Faced with this reversal, Hu Liena gasped in surprise. The aggressive blonde man had been effortlessly blocked by Qian Yun, who hadn't even made a move.
Looking at Yabojin lying on the ground, Qian Yun looked at his own hands in a daze.
"Is the effect of the Dharma Source Barrier really this strong?" The golden light that had been circling him finally dissipated, and Qian Yun felt the Dharma Source Note on his chest tremble once before going still.
"Are you okay?" Hu Liena stepped forward and took Qian Yun's hand. Her small face turned, filled with anger, as she pointed at Yabojin, who was being pinned down by Yake Entu, and scolded, "Hmph! We risked our lives to save you, and you attack us in return. What an ungrateful wolf! I spit on you."
"Heh." Faced with her insults, the proud man could only respond with a miserable laugh.
The physical pain, especially the piercing agony in his wrist, was not even one ten-thousandth of the grief and indignation in his heart.
He hadn't actually wanted to hurt anyone; he had only wanted to provoke Yake Entu into killing him, but he hadn't even managed to achieve that.
Yake Entu looked at the two of them and could only shake his head silently, telling Ge Yan to quickly call Lina over to treat him.
After a while.
Lina summoned her orb to treat Yabojin, while on the other side, Qian Yun and Yake Entu dragged the Evil Spirit Master to the side.
"Captain, how should we deal with this guy?" Qian Yun looked at Yake Entu. Judging from the previous conversation, this guy had no way to restore Yabojin, which meant he no longer had any value.
"Mm... Mmph." Sensing something ominous, the Evil Spirit Master ignored his pain and began to struggle violently.
Yake Entu's indifferent gaze met the man's pleading eyes, and he raised his heavy foot and kicked him in the waist. "Stay still!"
He then bent down, untied the cloth strip from the man's mouth, and said, "I'll ask one last time. You must answer honestly, because this is your last chance."
"Okay, my lord, I'll tell you! I will tell you everything I know!"
Yake Entu pointed at Yabojin, who was receiving treatment. "Is there really no possibility of him recovering?"
The Evil Spirit Master swallowed hard, his eyes flickering. "Uh... there shouldn't be, right?"
Yake Entu gave him another kick without hesitation. "What do you mean by 'shouldn't be'?"
The Evil Spirit Master hurriedly explained, "My Blood Wolf Martial Soul can alter a Martial Soul, it's true, but it doesn't change it at the root; it's more like an added state. Theoretically, if this state is removed, he can recover."
Qian Yun frowned. "By 'theoretically,' you mean you've tried but failed, right?"
"Yes. To remove the state, you must act before the erosion goes too deep, and it would require a Spirit Douluo to have any chance of success. Or, you could find a Spirit Master with a dark-attribute Martial Soul to help him, but that would require the other party's Martial Soul to be of extremely, extremely high quality."
He laughed at himself. "Hmph, but that is easier said than done. That is why I said it is only theoretically possible."
Qian Yun nodded. "Very good."
The Evil Spirit Master was stunned. "Very good? Why is it very good?"
Before he could finish his sentence, Yake Entu blocked his line of sight. Seeing this, Qian Yun turned around consciously.
He looked at Yabojin, deep in thought, and whispered to himself, "I wonder if my Martial Soul would work."
After another half day, the Evil Spirit Master had been completely eliminated and the hostage rescued; the mission was finally complete.
On the way back, the team members were all very excited. The mission had been tricky, but the rewards were equally generous, and it was foreseeable that Martial Soul Hall would reward them handsomely.
Qian Yun gave Hu Liena a look without drawing attention, then walked toward the back of the carriage. Seeing this, Hu Liena stood up silently and followed him.
A small, separate room had been partitioned off at the back of the carriage, and Yabojin was currently tied tightly to a chair.
He was no longer the hostage who needed protection. Judging by his sudden outburst and the changes to his Martial Soul, he was now a rather dangerous existence.
After entering the room, Qian Yun didn't waste words. He walked straight up, removed the blindfold, and stared at him with an indifferent gaze, remaining silent.
Yabojin looked up at him, but quickly lost interest. "Hmph, what do you want?"
He no longer hoped for the other party to show mercy and give him a quick death; he only hoped that after he was returned, he wouldn't be executed by his family in such a humiliating way.
Qian Yun shrugged. "Nothing much, just want to use you for an experiment."
"An experiment?" Yabojin instinctively wanted to resist, but he was also a bit curious.
He thought for a moment and then spoke, "If you're thinking of relying on yourself to restore my Martial Soul, then I advise you to give up. I no longer hold out hope for miracles. In fact..."
Qian Yun sighed helplessly, "Stop! I couldn't care less about what you think of me. I only came to find you for an experiment."
Yabojin opened his mouth, then finally gave a bleak smile. He never expected that he would one day have his dignity stripped away to become a lab rat. "Fine, if you want to experiment, then go ahead. If the danger is high, that's exactly what I'm hoping for."
Qian Yun summoned his Martial Soul and said, "In your dreams. If you actually died at my hands, while I wouldn't have to pay with my life, it would still be a troublesome affair. I will be careful."
He turned back to give Hu Liena instructions, "Boli, if anyone comes later or if you see that things aren't right, give him a hit to interrupt the experiment."
Hu Liena leaned against the door and said, "Alright, be careful."
"Heh, I know." Qian Yun looked back at Yabojin, putting away his relaxed expression. "I'm starting."
Qian Yun's hand rested unceremoniously on the top of Yabojin's head, and immediately, his own soul power surged forth.
"Urgh!"
Yabojin clenched his teeth instantly. Qian Yun's soul power poured down from the top of his head; the sensation was as if he were standing under a waterfall. That absolute suppressive force made it impossible for him to believe that the person he was facing was merely a Soul Grand Master!
Qian Yun controlled his soul power to rampage through the other man's body, reaching the target's dantian without much effort.
Just as that Evil Spirit Master had said, a viscous aura of blood filled the dantian, while the originally normal soul power could only cower to one side.
Qian Yun opened his eyes and said to the pained Yabojin, "The situation is still acceptable. I am going to attempt to refine this mass of blood energy. The process will be very painful, but there is a high probability that you can recover."
Hearing this, Yabojin looked up into Qian Yun's indifferent, golden eyes. Although he had already resigned himself to death, if he could recover, who would want to die carrying the infamy of being an Evil Spirit Master?
He bared his teeth and squeezed a sentence through them, "Do your worst!"
"Good." Qian Yun nodded, refocusing his concentration on the other man's dantian. At the same time, the Star Power inherent in his soul power began to make contact with the blood energy.
With a hiss, Qian Yun actually controlled the fire element, enhanced by Star Power, to burn within the other man's dantian.
"Ah!!" Having his vital area treated with such brutality was, to him, a pain worse than death.
Yabojin's pained cries did not shake Qian Yun's resolve in the slightest; he continued to carefully scorch the blood energy with his flames.
Fortunately, Qian Yun's flames, infused with Star Power, were surprisingly effective against this type of blood energy, clearing it away with almost no room for resistance.
By this time, Yabojin's willpower was nearing its limit, yet Qian Yun was in no hurry and had no intention of withdrawing his soul power. Instead, he directly severed his connection to the soul power to ensure he wouldn't be contaminated by that blood energy.
"Hoo! Hoo--!"
Yabojin gasped for air, relying on his nearly blurred consciousness to barely make out Qian Yun's face, his heart filled with both shock and fear.
Qian Yun's methods could be described as extremely cruel; not only did he set a fire directly inside his body, but he also burned away three levels of his soul power cultivation in the process. It was like taking a person growing normally and forcibly stunting them by several centimeters.
Even if he could recover in the future, it would inevitably affect his foundation.
