Background / History
Hu Liena was born and raised in Beast King Village, living in the village chief’s household with her grandfather and A-Qiang. Although she wanted to become a Spirit Master, both opposed the ambition and believed that marrying into a good family would be enough. Qian Yun was the first person shown openly encouraging her dream 3 38 39.
Her childhood was also marked by Er Hu’s harassment. He spread rumors that her grandfather had betrothed her to him, called her his “wife,” and prevented other children from playing with her. Hu Liena never accepted his claims 40.
During the blood-moon calamity, her grandfather and A-Qiang behaved abnormally, and the village burned. Qian Yun tried to protect her; A-Qiang intervened when the village chief attacked them. Hu Liena survived but lost her home, grandfather, and A-Qiang 3 4.
Martial Soul Hall’s responders discovered the children’s spontaneous awakenings. Hu Liena feared that becoming an ordinary person beside a Spirit Master would eventually separate her from Qian Yun, so confirmation of her own Martial Soul brought both hope and relief. They left for Muyi City with the deceased men’s bodies, which Martial Soul Hall properly buried 5 6.
After manifesting her Demon Fox Martial Soul before Bibi Dong, Hu Liena became the Pope’s disciple alongside Qian Yun. Their Pope Hall education combined cultivation with soul theory, music, chess, calligraphy, painting, and etiquette 6 10 12.
Appearance
- Natural appearance: Fair skin, delicate features, and a slender build; she is described as pretty even before awakening her Martial Soul 2 4 12.
- Martial Soul possession: Her eyes turn bright pink, fox ears and a furry tail appear, and her figure becomes taller and more graceful. She radiates an involuntary charm 6 10 45.
- Makeup: Begins wearing elaborate, glamorous makeup during her academy years, with Bibi Dong recommending pearl powder to her 33.
- Later appearance: Qian Yun remarks that she has grown into a beautiful woman when they reunite after several years 121.
Personality
Hu Liena is proud, playful, and openly affectionate with Qian Yun. She enjoys teasing him, inventing syrupy nicknames, and provoking reactions from his otherwise composed manner. Her enthusiasm for his successes is sincere: she celebrates his first ring and later becomes delighted by his clone skill 10 22 36.
Her stubbornness can become recklessness. During early field training, she initially denies being exhausted before admitting her frustration. After the Ghost Moth battle, she blames herself for endangering Qian Yun and repeatedly apologizes while tending to his bloodied hands 12 36.
She develops a strong sense of responsibility toward ordinary people. Enforcement missions teach her about their hardships, while her return to Beast King Village drives her to challenge exploitation and compensate survivors. Resolving those affairs gives her peace despite the imperfect outcome 22 38 39 40.
Hu Liena is fiercely ambitious. She refuses to remain intimidated by academy hostility, vows to reclaim the Soul Bone taken from her trial, and expresses a desire to become Pope. Her concern for others remains evident even when receiving a valuable herb: she checks that Qian Yun and Bibi Dong also have one 32 57 58 131.
Abilities & Skills
Demon Fox Martial Soul
- A top-tier beast Martial Soul distinguished by strong mental power and charm 6 7 42.
- Possession changes her body and produces an alluring aura even without a separately announced Spirit Skill 6 45.
- Her perception allows her to notice Oscar’s concealed lewdness despite his outwardly pleasant manner 42.
- Its top-tier classification does not make it immune to intimidation: Dai Mubai’s White Tiger presence unsettles her, and Ma Hongjun’s Phoenix initially makes her cautious 43 45.
First Spirit Skill: Charm
- Obtained from her hundred-year Demon Fox ring 8.
- Affects an enemy’s perceptions, creating misleading sensory impressions 8.
- Makes Hu Liena appear to move at extraordinary speed during her demonstration; she explicitly explains that this speed is illusory 8.
- Has group crowd-control potential, though its coverage is limited when first acquired 8 9.
- Successfully affects Qian Yun despite his top-tier mental-type Martial Soul 9.

Third Spirit Skill: Blood Burning
- Obtained from a thousand-year Dark Gold Terrorclaw Bear ring 56.
- Comprehensively increases the effect of any of her Spirit Skills by 100% 56.
- Its value can grow with her repertoire: Qian Yun recognizes that it could eventually enhance skills from much older rings 56.
Crown-Assisted Cultivation and Combat
- Qian Yun’s star-infused soul power temporarily strengthens her Martial Soul, improves her physical strength, and intensifies her charm effects 10 11.
- During their first cultivation experiment, her soul-power circulation becomes almost three times faster than usual 11.
- The benefit is one-sided in that experiment: her soul power produces no meaningful acceleration in Qian Yun’s circulation 11.
- She later notices an even greater improvement after Qian Yun becomes stronger, though he treats the connection as a possibility rather than a confirmed explanation 41.
- This assistance comes from Qian Yun’s Crown; it is not established as a Martial Soul Fusion Skill between them 11.
