Background / History

Tang San enters the story as a Shrek Academy student and the disciple of Grandmaster Yu Xiaogang. He trains in Tang Sect techniques, including hidden weapons, the Mysterious Heaven Skill, Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track, and Purple Demon Eye. Before encountering Yu Tianyu directly, he senses a terrifying aura from the Heaven Dou Royal Academy captain and recognizes him as an exceptional threat 22 23.

His rivalry with Yu Tianyu begins in Soto City. Tang San attacks after Yu Tianyu humiliates Grandmaster, but his Dragon Whisker Needles are melted by lightning and he is defeated with a single slap 25. In their subsequent spirit duel, Yu Tianyu neutralizes Blue Silver Grass through electrical conduction, destroys Tang San’s hidden-weapon barrage, and breaks the Eight Spider Lances after absorbing their poison 27.

During the Continental Elite High-Level Spirit Master Tournament, Yu Tianyu orders Yu Tianxin to force Tang San into revealing his second Martial Soul, the Clear Sky Hammer. The exposure identifies Tang San as Tang Hao’s son and makes him a target of Spirit Hall 33 34 36.

Appearance

After entering Slaughter City, Tang San loses his formerly gentle and scholarly bearing. He is described as shirtless and leanly muscular, with a body covered in healing and bleeding wounds, cold eyes, and pupils that flicker blood-red from accumulated killing intent 46.

  • Often carries hidden weapons concealed on his person.
  • Uses the Twenty-Four Moonlit Bridges belt to store equipment 22.
  • Develops the venomous Eight Spider Lances from his back.
  • His appearance becomes increasingly gaunt and damaged as his hatred and repeated defeats intensify 39 46.

Personality

Tang San is initially hardworking, proud, and deeply loyal to Grandmaster, Xiao Wu, and Shrek Academy. He views cultivation, Tang Sect techniques, and his Twin Martial Souls as proof that he can overcome stronger opponents. His respect for Grandmaster is strong enough that he attacks Yu Tianyu after the latter insults his teacher 25 27.

Repeated defeats change him into a more desperate and vindictive figure. He becomes obsessed with defeating Yu Tianyu, obtaining power, and recovering Xiao Wu, even when this fixation damages his relationships with Shrek’s other members. His victory over Star Luo Royal Academy comes at the cost of Dai Mubai and Zhu Zhuqing’s severe injuries, leaving his teammates resentful of his tactics 42.

After Xiao Wu’s capture, Tang San trains to exhaustion under a waterfall and enters Slaughter City with revenge as his sole purpose. His killing intent grows increasingly extreme, earning him the name “Asura,” but Yu Tianyu’s continued psychological torment pushes him toward madness rather than recovery 45 46.
